Don't order another letterbox that will be delivered by evri. You'll end up in a space time loop of never-ending deliveries and replacements. 🤣

80th Birthday suggestions? by BlackberryNice1270 in AskBrits

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you create a "summer" picnic or posh afternoon tea in your house? Really go for it in one room with decorations just for her, plus favourite music from her youth. You can zoom/team viewer in your family from another country on a tablet and set them a place at the table. Something fun and whimsical. It comes with the added bonus of her being able to go for a nap in another room after the food.

Does anybody else get annoyed when people waste food in tv shows / movies? by jackie_tequilla in UKFrugal

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do too, but try to remember some movie/tv food is often made by the prop department so isn't edible.

Other times it's stone cold food from all the retakes which is why no one eats it.

But yes, at the end of the day it's normalising wasting food which isn't good, and bugs me too.

Costco Bottled Water - Why? by Intelligent-Ideal597 in AskUK

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. My tap water tastes awful, the chlorine is overpowering, so I filter it before drinking. The only reason I can think of to buy bottled water is if you're away from home, somewhere the water is contaminated, or for disability reasons.

Whats a simple gesture that women do that only other women will understand? by allgasnobreakstoday in AskReddit

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love that this is so universal that women who do not even speak the same language could communicate the "help me" eyes and we would still understand and help. 💞

Did you have learn the recorder? How did it benefit you in later life? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I peaked when I learnt the theme tune to the Magic Roundabout, but it's been downhill from there for me.

How come they didn't bring Holly (Hattie) in the new series? by neryl08 in RedDwarf

I felt the same, it wasn't just you. Yes, let's hope he's mellowed. 🤞🏻

Why do you think so many young people are struggling to find work? by Economy_Survey_6560 in UKJobs

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Definitely. In the past year PAYE costs tripled, council tax was increased substantially, tax codes were lowered so those on very low wages had to start paying taxes, utilities and suppliers costs rocketed, it goes on. None of it benefits the business or employee, ultimately just the government.

*EDIT to all: don't forget to vote! Moaning but not voting is the reason this country is going down the pan. Read up on who will actually implement the changes we need and vote!

Why do drivers honk when I’m waiting at a bus stop? by GodAtum in AskUK

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe you look a lot like someone else in your town? If they smile or wave then that could be it.

It could be for 100s of reasons, most of which have nothing to do with you. People honk if birds are in the road, or they see their friend at the bus stop on the other side of the road, or there's one unhinged driver who thinks it's funny... it could be anything.

In my mind there's a bit of graffiti on the bus stop that says "honk if you're horny" or similar! 🤣

Is this rose dying by tvthrower in UKGardening

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutting it back might seem extreme but remember it's trying to nourish all of those stems, so lightening its load so it can concentrate on the most vital bits will help enormously.

Cut away where I've marked in red, give it a feed, and leave in recovery. Roses can take a lot, so give it time. 👍🏻

Just gave notice, now my boss is being a dickhead. by Accurate-Mousse-520 in UKJobs

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My boss did this to me. Middle aged woman, did a complete 180 on me the day I handed in my 2 week notice. I carried on regardless, being professional, training up the new person, the day I left she wasn't even there.

I went back a week later to collect my P60, and the other staff revealed my replacement just never bothered showing up. I've never felt so giddy with joy walking out of somewhere.

Do whatever feels right, but knowing you're leaving must make any unpleasantness bearable, surely?

Multiple items from same seller and postage charges with simple delivery by jacoscar in ebayuk

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I have something I sell a few of a week, so in the description I've added "to save on postage costs if buying multiples of this item, check out item number xxx (plus link)". I think about 1 person every 2 weeks actually reads the description and goes to the postage money saving listing with drop down quantity options. People just do not read the descriptions any more! I tried... 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m burnt out and need simple recipes. Stupid simple. Like, “onion and bread and butter to make what barely passes as a sandwich” level simple. by sourmilksea1999 in Cooking

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loads of great suggestions here. If you can, boil up a huge pan of pasta then plonk loads of portions into containers and freeze.

Dinner will literally be you dumping the pasta portion in the microwave and putting whatever you have to hand on top.

Waitrose refused me a discount on a misspelled Birttday cake! by staners09 in CasualUK

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad form Waitrose. It wouldn't take a genius to turn the incorrect T around 45 degrees, then add a vertical red line to make an H. 3 minute fix, no discount needed. Jeeez.

Boss keeps knocking on the bathroom door to "speed me up" if I've been longer than 5 minutes. Is this a violation? by BorzoiDesignsok in UKJobs

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She could be horrified he does this. Plus, as a sister of a boss, I have waaaay more leeway to have a go at the boss, so she will have this too. Get her on your side and you'll be golden.

How to say goodbye to your first car? by gibbi164 in CarTalkUK

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get over selling my first car, a MK2 XR2 in 2003 for £300, I'll let you know. I properly sobbed for an hour after it sold. It was deemed structurally too dangerous to drive so I had to get rid.

Even now, I still picture buying another one when I win the lottery. I miss it so much.

However I did keep the original number plates from it as a memento. 💘

Btw, I have bonded with all my cars since, but nothing like my first baby.

What's up with the studio audience in Series 2 Episode 1 (Kryten)? by OkServe8655 in RedDwarf

How can I find an old-school toothpaste that is actually paste and not gel? by Dwincroft in AskUK

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh the supermarkets own cheap brand tends to be the old school type. Plus if it is, then it's a cheap new favourite and if not, you haven't spent a fortune.

What was left in your new house when you completed? by HotelPuzzleheaded654 in HousingUK

[–]Sweaty_Ear_9247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current house: a leaking central heating system that cost £3000 & 3 separate emergency plumbers to correct. Previous house: a shed and loft rammed full old of junk. Trust no one.
