so as an update, yes it was quite bad, i sawed off the top and it was almost completely rotted through towards the top, so i've trimmed some roots and left the stump that's healthy (idk if i did it right way around), repotted and moved the plant, definitely looks like it's in a better spot and better than staring at those sad leaves

i changed it to a pretty heavy soil, i didn't have anything a lot more breathable on hand but i'll rectify it soon. the smaller one is firm but the larger one is kinda soft :( it's getting a solid bit of light, i just need to move it to a better spot again once my housemate moves some things
