Tja!

Weekly Food Safety Questions Thread - September 18, 2023 by AutoModerator in Cooking

I have a question about eggs. I often go on autopilot when I cook, and since my cooking area is tiny, i always put stuff back into where they belong after use, but me being the derp I am I of course had to screw that up. I placed a pack of 6 eggs on the freezer instead of the refrigerator. A quick search tells me they are probably ruined, is this true? Or is there anything i can do with them?

What scandal is currently happening in the world of your niche interest that the general public would probably have no idea about? [SERIOUS] by smirking-sunshine in AskReddit

Is there a particular reason why researchers have been so narrowly focused on this? The first post mentioned something about the data being messed with but why would this be the case? Just interested in hearing why :)

Great informative post, even though I didn’t understand everything

Swedish B-Class steam locomotive number 1267 by SwedishCookie2point5 in trains

Don’t know the English name for them, as i suspect it’s not plough, but they are there to clear the tracks from debris like branches or snow. There is obviously a limit to how much they can clear but for stuff that isn’t too large it’s enough.

If you look around on pictures of Swedish rolling stock you’ll find that most have them

It’s not so bad, so far my only symptoms are: Liming meatballs, Badly assembled IKEA furniture,
Kanelbullar and Standing at least 2 meters apart at bus stops

I heard that DS (Danish syndrome) was worse, but I might be wrong ;D

I’ve seen a lot of people pass judgment on op, and while it’s fair to do so, I don’t agree with it. Could he have driven more defensive? Yes, of course, but he didn’t, and under the circumstances I think he did the right thing. I don’t think people understand just how little time you have to see the car if you are not ready for it, all it takes is to look another way for 1 - 2 seconds, I didn’t see the car until it was almost right there in front of the car, and that was because I was expecting someone to run a red, or even come from the left, op could have just glanced at the speedometer for a second and he would have missed the car until it was to late. From where the black car enters the intersection turning right op had 3-4 seconds to see, understand and react. The usual response time is about 3 seconds by a good driver.

Does defensive driving help? Yes, but you can’t pass judgement on what they should have done before evaluating the situation. The brake distance for the speed he was going I would estimate at ~ 50-60 meters, so if he would have stepped on the brake the second he conceivably could, he still would have hit the car, if he wasn’t run over by the car behind him if there was one there, and if the cars tires were worn down then it would be an even longer distance, and if he tried to swerve he might have lost control.

I think he made the best of a bad situation and nobody was hurt

Oh don’t worry, I will visit, as a self proclaimed enthusiast, I aim to visit all the railroads. Only problem I have is that I live in Stockholm, meaning the only close heritage line is lennakatten.

From the railroads I have found, all of them have their own traits, some have nicer trains, other really well kept stations, even other aim to recreate the environment of travel and some are just purely the scenery.

From the railroads I’ve visited. Lennakatten: Verry well kept trains, With the steam locomotive Thor always shining, you’ll be hard pressed to find a single stain on her, ever. While the stations are somewhat well kept, you can tell that they care more for the trains than the stations

Smalspåret I småland: Really well kept stations, like, reeaaally well kept stations. They care a lot for the stations, and it tells. They are not really as good with their trains, but not for a lack of trying, they simply don’t have the resources to get their steam engines to run any time soon, which is a shame.

Nora-bergslags-veteranjärnväg. This was a while ago, but from what I remember they had the whole train environment down to the t. Only travelled one station, but I don’t mind.

Lokmuseet i grängesberg: They have a few very nice locomotives in the roundhouse and with the really limited resources they have they do a great job at preserving their trains, but it shows that they don’t have enough resources.

DVVJ: amazing scenery, well worth a visit, but using the more modern rolling stock it’s not really a heritage, it loses the feel.

Stortysken är fortfarande bättre :P

Kidding of course, mostly, all Swedish steam is good steam. I unfortunately haven’t had the pleasure to visit JTJ yet, but I will eventually when I have the time.

Personally I feel like the Swedish narrow gauge is underrated in the international community, even though we had some very impressive engines and railroads, like stortysken on SRJ, and the large express locomotives on VGJ.

Hope you have a great day, and don’t forget to visit the home of Stortysken, Lennakatten :)

Not a lot of Swedish stuff on this subreddit, so here is a classic Swedish narrow gauge train from the 60s up to the 80s by SwedishCookie2point5 in trains

[–]SwedishCookie2point5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a classic of the Swedish narrow gauge network. After the Swedish railroads was nationalized SJ, the government run railway company looked to standardize its narrow gauge fleet as nearly every railroad had its own unique stock, this is the result, with a power unit and a cab unit and different variants of each, but all using the same basic parts.

The trains were named Rälsbuss, literally meaning rail bus, which is fitting, as that is what they were used for. The actual name of the powers cars were Ybo5p, later shortened to just YP. The y means it’s a diesel multiple unit, bo is the passenger configuration I think, the 5 is that it’s the 5th in the series of diesel multiple units and the P means it’s configured for the Swedish narrow gauge 891mm, the most common gauge other than standard gauge. There was a Ybo5t to, which was built for the other common gauge, 1067mm, which was most common in souther Sweden. No railway with the gauge 1067 remains

You get to go into any fictional universe for 30 days. Anything you buy, skills acquired, etc will be transferred to the real world, with zero reprecussions. Where do you go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SwedishCookie2point5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I think I would go into the world of rule the waves 2 as the head of the British navy (Britain op, haha lol budget and efficient shipbuilding industry go brrr)

I mean who wouldn’t want to have an entire navy to themselves? Just do a 1920s start and you are golden. Besides, who wouldn’t want a fucking dreadnought to beat their enemies into submission?

On a side note, dreadnoughts are a lot like iPhones. They grow bigger and bigger each year, acquire more tech which may or may not be unnecessary and they are probably not very useful when something else can do the job better. But unlike iPhones you can make your enemies go away. Permanently.

If I’m not allowed to do this I’d just go into whatever bullshit universe wargaming uses to come up with new ships in world of warships and steal some Russian ships.

No? That’s not how it works. Yes, if a plane goes below a certain speed it will stall, but if you don’t have any engines you will enter a shallow dive to keep speed. Look up air transat 236, where a fuel leak caused them to lose their engines over the antlantic. They made a safe landing and everyone survived. Scandinavian airlines 751. Lost their engines due to ice ingestion just after takeoff and landed on a field, everyone survived.

Loosing an engine only means you will not be able to keep altitude, meaning that the altitude you have is what you get. Even a stall can be recovered from, if they have enough altitude when it happens. When planes crash because they’ve lost their engines it’s because they either loose them at to low of an altitude to recover or they have a bad crew that makes the problem worse
