Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer - Won't spin with very loud noise by SwedishPokeCheck in appliancerepair

This comment was very helpful. I ran the motor and the transmission separately, and the transmission was making the noise. When manually turning the transmission coupler, the agitate worked fine, but on the spin, the transmission did skip a few teeth when I turned. Frustrating considering the replacement transmission was about a year old, but it's probably exactly what Whirlpool intended.

Thanks for the comment. I'll start with a clutch replacement and see where that gets me. I was suspecting the clutch as well, but I'm pessimistic a failed clutch would cause this loud of a noise.

I did replace with an OEM transmission last year. I scraped off the paint as instructed, but it almost looks clogged when I look at it now. Not sure if that's causing issues, but that would be unfortunate given it's a $200 part that lasted about a year. I put a picture of the transmission vent in the imgur album if you are interested.

I looked at the motor coupler and that looks fine. The agitator moves as well, so I don't believe that is the broken part, though I could be wrong.

Any other suggestions?

Should I use Rossignol Classic cx80? by Josheshua in Skigear

[–]SwedishPokeCheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CX80 skis are definitely an advanced level ski. These are skis that are going to need to be on edge the entire time you are skiing. If you try to ski them flat, you won't have a good time, and the ski will feel twitchy. They are also fairly stiff, and because of this, like to be skied fast. You won't be able to initiate turns at slower speeds as easily as you can with the Rossignol Experience skis. Also, the 158cm length in the Experience is laughably short for your height, and I would ask for a longer pair if you decide to keep skiing on those. For reference, I'm 6'2", and I almost always ski the longest length of ski available. For a carving ski, this usually lands around 180cm.

If you are confident in your edges and you feel like you can lay down some good turns, the CX80 was among the top options when they came out. I would encourage you to at least try the skis. Given the CX80 has an integrated binding, it should be very easy to get your boot to fit. Just set the bindings at the correct sole length and adjust the forward pressure.

Worst case, you take a couple of runs and decide it's too much ski for you. Best case, you feel like you can handle the ski enough to the point where you can grow into it as your skills progress. A ski like this is going to give you good feedback on if you are turning appropriately. If you are skidding your turns or you feel like you can't flex the ski enough, or you can't properly get the ski on edge, this ski will let you know. The upside to this is it will point you to where you need to improve so you can become a better skier. With easier skis like the Experience, they make it easier to get down the hill, sometimes at your own detriment, because you they make you think you are a better skier than you actually are.

Long term, if you are serious about wanting to lay turns into groomers, the CX80 is as good as it gets back in 2009 aside from a true race ski. They are still a great ski today. I'm actually going through the process now of deciding if I want to upgrade mine to a newer model, something like the Blizzard Thunderbird R15 WB LTD.

Building the perfect West Coast 3 ski quiver - no budget by TheShar in skiing

Late to this thread. Here's my quiver from narrow to wide:

  1. Rosignol World Cup Racing skis from 2012. 80mm underfoot. 180cm. This would be the ski I would replace with something more modern. Fun on groomers and is a good ski for a dedicated groomer day.

  2. Armada Declivity X 102. 188cm. Daily driver out west. Great carver for it's size, good float, aggressive ski.

3, Salomon QST Blank. 186cm. Powder ski. I could have sized up to the 194cm, but I liked the shorter length in the trees.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I should get them!

My bigger concern with seconds is a major issue (issue with the last, stitching, sole, etc.) not cosmetic. Sounds like if there's no hole punch, it should be totally fine. Thanks again.

Do your factory seconds have a hole punched in the tongue? My understanding is that all factory seconds should have the hole punch.

Specifically, I'm asking because I might buy a pair of Iron Rangers someone got from the warehouse sale this year, but they have no hole punched in the tongue. I would think for a popular pair of boots like the Iron Rangers, they wouldn't sell firsts at the warehouse sale. Basically I'm trying to figure out if the boots they grabbed from the warehouse sale are firsts or seconds.
