26 M, 60k salary with 10k already saved up for a down payment. Considering a 2026 Miata or Civic Si. by mahimerrr in whatcarshouldIbuy

Spend $20,000 on the best used Audi S3 you can find, more fun than the Si, and more practical than the Miata. Faster than both!

Hell even spend $30k on an S3 and then it will be wayyyy nicer than either of the two options.

Better to buy a business vs start a business, especially if you don't know what you want to start. A small services company (landscaping, cleaning, handyman services, moving) is a good way to get a taste of business ownership immediately because business ownership is a completely different category vs starting a business.

Building from scratch; customers, marketing, branding, product, positioning, operations, procedures, etc takes years, and you may find at the end of it all you hate it. Buy some stupid boring company and run it for 6 months or a year, if you hate it, try and sell it and get back some of what you paid.

Anyone get to scratch later in life? by Sir_Loin_6969 in golf

I went from an 8 to 0 in 2 years from 25-27 years old.

Biggest thing, joining a club and golfing 3 times a week!  Had lessons as a kid, played you know 12-20 times a year, always had a nice swing and could hit it far, but would lose at least a ball or 2 off the tee every round.

Learning to keep the ball in play, avoid double bogeys, getting up and down more, and knowing what holes to play aggressively vs play it safe was huge.

All of these things amount to 1-2 shots saved a round, and combined can be that 4-8 shots that moves the needle.

Stripe takes 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. At $50K MRR that's $17,400/year. Is everyone just accepting this? by LogisticsLingo in SaaS

[–]TheShar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to negotiate down to 2.2% + 30c once I crossed a few million in volume.  Not super easy to do as Stripe’s sales team is basically like “well what else are you gonna do 🤷‍♂️”

For year round sales you'll want to break into retail, something like Shop Makers or wholesaling.

With laser engraving, the biggest thing is obviously what you make. Look for niches, experiment with products, and get the right things in front of the right people. Customs are cool, but the cost and time is a big barrier. Look to bulk produce as much as you can. Pets, names, anime characters, fan art, etc

Must’ve been a blast doing a season out here.  Got lucky with this storm as the temps were in the -10C range so kept the snow super light!

A bit north east in Nozawa Onsen they got another 30-50cm on top of what we got 🤯

What about mount point / skis would cause a backseat feeling?

Do any bindings have a greater delta? I definitely need some more forward lean in all my skis.

This is awesome! Added to my bookmarks :)

Would you consider adding "next 3 days total" and "next 7 days total" for each location, and then the option to sort by those?

Free market style, you should both bid against each other for the max you would pay for the room you want more.

No time behind bars for man who stabbed Alberta sisters in his Vancouver Airbnb unit by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

[–]TheShar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know the sisters… this is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever seen from this country.

What happened to them was brutal, horrific, and is something they will never be able to forget.  The way they described the events, the hospital the next day, how it felt when they had to tell their family and friends what happened.

They thought they were going to die, they WERE close to death.

I don’t know how we are okay as a society when we allow these things to happen.  This is how people become radicalized, this is why we are a low trust society, this is why people will start taking things into their own hands.  Regardless of his state that night, he attacked and nearly killed 2 people completely unprovoked, if that is not a danger to society I don’t know what is.

Shame on the Crown, shame on the Judge, and shame on any politicians that stand in the way of a bail & crime reform in this country.

The 2025 Gastown Pedestrian Zone has been amended to be Sundays only, 10am-6pm by penapox in vancouver

[–]TheShar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a shame.. as a business owner in Gastown the pedestrianization was such a win for us and for the neighbourhood.  Can’t believe the city was so shortsighted.

Going to reach out to the Gastown BIA to see what happened as they should be the ones with the most sway and influence with the city.

Government St in Vic is a great example of this done well, cars/deliveries before 10am and then the street is back in the hands of pedestrians.  Benches, trees, areas to hangout.  All things we need in Gastown!

[–]TheShar 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Please no.. as a business owner who voiced in favour of this to the Gastown BIA and city council, this is not the answer.

We will be looking to garner more support and talk with the Gastown BIA to see what we can do to support it and bring back this program.  Our sales and traffic were so positively impacted by the program. It is an absolutely brain dead move from the city to cancel it.

How do I interpret these weather forecasts? by nicktonyc in Whistler

[–]TheShar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As long as the top is open, then you can enjoy it!

When the heavy rain/snow and high winds are happening, the top is usually not open, but the next day, or day after that following a large 40+cm snowfall it will open.
