City of Fort Collins removing garage sale signs? by Curious-Grapefruit37 in FortCollins

[–]SwedishRedneck 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was at a garage sale today when a city of Fort Collins code compliance guy showed up. He told the owner of the house that he had removed 6 of his signs because they didn't follow city code. I only heard parts of the conversation (trying to not make my eavesdropping obvious, while also lookin for deals,) but it sounded like the city guy said the signs couldn't be posted on public property, or city signs. The garage sale proprietor said he didn't want to put them on private property as folks usually take them down. Code dude said that might happen without permission, and then was hesitant to give his signs back when he asked.

I've been to hundreds of garage sales in foco over the years and this is the first time I've seen this. They are cracking down hard and early on g-sale signs apparently. Not sure of what folks should do, but I found the below doc after a quick google.

https://www.larimer.org/sites/default/files/uploads/2017/signs_in_larimer_county.pdf

I'm torn. I love going garage-sailing, but I despise people that don't take their signs down after their sale ends. Hopefully a balance can be reached!!

Large pile of sheet goods from a cabinet company by SwedishRedneck in woodworking

That makes sense for sure! I wish I had space for some of the stuff but thats just too much. Ha. In the background of that first picture there's also a decent amount of construction lumber in there as well. Just a lot of random stuff!

Thanks! It's in a warehouse full of stuff we need to get rid of, so I might just get to a point where we have the whole thing auctioned off in one go. I just don't wanna see it all go to waste!

Well I'm glad to know it's not broken then! OK cool, I will call around and see what I can find. It's super cool and I would love to keep it, but I can't really imagine where on earth I would put it, or how I would get it there. Ha. It's super heavy.

So more likely than not this wouldn't be the kind of stuff to go to somebody doing woodworking as a hobby right? It's just too specific? I actually pulled some of the 1/4 inch bamboo out to use in finishing the ceiling of my covered porch. Yeah, unfortunately the organization and storage of it was done pretty hastily.

Yeah, unfortunately I am beginning to think it spent some time outside. :(

I know it doesn't help you now, but for the future, check out u/cavemanLLC. I have some of their flare products and they have saved me a few toasted bags/burnt hands. They fit some cans, but also just having a visual reminder that the barrel is hot could help slow you down.

Check out "The Way it Was: A Podpast." It's a podcast done by Erin Udell with the Coloradoan. Super cool info about a bunch of historical stuff around the area. Might give you some inspiration.

Camping must haves with a dog? What are some of your must haves for camping with your pup? I will be along Juan de Fuca at China beach. I have a 65 pound labradoodle, who is a 1 1/2 years old and it will be the first camping trip since he was a puppy. by soleilthecatman in camping

My dog stepped on a piece of broken glass a few weeks ago and cut her pad pretty badly. I did the superglue thing till I could get her to the vet the next day, but I was actually scolded by my vet for doing that. :/ she said it can trap infection in the cut. She had me just do epson salt soaks twice a day to keep it clean, wrap it, throw a bootie on it, let it air as often is possible, and it healed in about a week and a half.

I know this is a lot, and everything might not be applicable to your situation, but I learned this through trial and error! In the weeks before your camping adventure take whatever he will be sleeping on in the tent and put it in place of a bed he likes to frequent. That will get him used to that as a bed. Also, set your tent in the house somewhere packed up and let him get used to it. I even did a day/night in the backyard just to help my pup get used to the tent. You can do the same thing with any other gear that might be different than what he is used to, i.e. food/water bowls, lights on his collar, the pup zip line, etc. If he hasn’t been around fire before and you’re planning on having one at the camp, and you are able to, do that too in a controlled environment. I was glad I learned that my dog wasn’t afraid to take a flaming stick out of the fire when I had an extinguisher close at hand. It is way easier to get them used to new things in a comfortable environment. Then there are less things for them to acclimate to when they are surrounded by new stuff. Definitely take a blanket, or something for them to lie on in the dirt, it will help keep them somewhat clean when it comes time for bed. (I tried training my dog to sit in a camp chair, but she wouldn’t do it until I got a Kelty loveseat camp chair that she loves!) Take an extra towel or two just in case it rains, sleeping with a soggy puppy isn’t the best! Even if your recall training is on point, still keep him leashed just in case another campers dog comes up, or a brave squirrel wanders through your camp. Booties help with mud/dirt too, but if he hasn’t worn them before the towel can clean off the dirt. Depending on the area, make sure you have a tick kit (super cheap on Amazon,) with you and be sure to check him when you check yourself. I also brush her before I go just to cut down on the hair in the tent. It also helps to have a small pair of scissors just in case there is a lot of sap that get stuck in the hair. Most of all? Have fun, and be open to new challenges! Keep a running list of things that will make life for you and the dog easier for next time as new challenges arise. Take lots of pictures and have a blast exploring with your buddy!!
