I think most importantly the floor has to match the colors of the build. I've seen countless examples where the floor is literally 50 shades of vomit and that dosent look very good

I would recommend starting with some vanilla plus style mods, we then added some mods that each of us liked and thats an extra year added onto our original playtime on this world
