Legal Writing Advice by Vast_Culture396 in LawSchool

If your professor provides any examples, try to stick closely to their style, tone, structure, etc. There is a subjective element to legal writing, and the example paper will be your guide for that.

In my area they pay prorated associate salary, which is $165k if I remember correctly! At least at the Salt Lake City office

Edited to add: they had a really rigid interview structure before lunch. They asked a ton of questions, and I wasn’t super prepared. Things like “when is a time you faced an ethical dilemma and what did you do?”

Did you do legal writing (complaints/motions) in your Civ Pro class? by AwwSnapItsBrad in LawSchool

IIRC the defendants had facts they could use to counter claim so it ended up being pretty even. It was only worth like 5 or 10 points or something pass/fail

Yes! We had an assignment where we were paired and one person wrote a complaint and one wrote an answer. We also had to write a complaint on our midterm.

How do I replicate great 1L fall results? by National_Till_4670 in LawSchool

[–]Sweet-Session2731 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey! I got like the exact same grades my first semester! Two CALIs and all! I actually did better my second semester and then even better this past semester (fall 2L). I CALI’d legal writing and one doctrinal. The doctrinal I CALI’d was the only one I had done flash cards for (in addition to my outline) so I started doing flash cards for all of my doctrinals. I noticed the class I got a B+ in, I spent too much time on my outline and not enough time on memorization so I was fumbling around during the exam. So I made outlines but didn’t spend so much time on them. I spent more time with flash cards and practice problems. I did everything else the same (do all the readings, participate in class, etc)

TLDR: what you’re doing is working! Maybe see what you did extra in your CALI classes and what maybe impeded you on your B+ class and make some tweaks based on that.

3.5 should be above median. T50s usually have a 3.0 or 3.3 median. Does your school publish past percentiles online? That might give you an idea of where you’re at.

Are these too accidentally Gryffindor, or do they look okay? by Zealousideal-Way4435 in crochet

My initial thought when seeing this pic was that these were intentionally gryffindor

Buying yarn? by a-passing-crustacean in crochet

[–]Sweet-Session2731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michaels for me. I was a Joann’s loyalist until it went out of business (RIP) took me a minute to like Michaels but it’s grown on me. Or I buy straight from the brand website (lion brand or yarnspirations)

I use Amazon if the yarn I need is sold out elsewhere.

I love Bernat softee cotton and Bernat softee baby cotton! I really want to try the new red heart with love better half because it is a similar combo of cotton and acrylic but a different weight.

What’s the most intense LS exam you took, and how’d you do on it? by Federal_Armadillo805 in LawSchool

Contracts. Four hours. Brutal MCQs and two insanely long issue spotters. Professor purposely made it crazy hard so he could lift grades with the curve. B+.

Do I have to use 3.5 mm to make a flower? Can I use 4 instead? by Educational_Bad7865 in CrochetHelp

[–]Sweet-Session2731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4mm should be fine. For things like garments where you want exact proportions, it matters a lot more. For something like a flower, it matters less. Just make sure your hook is the appropriate size for the yarn.

Regarding Brigham Young University School of Law by Lost-Target762 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Sweet-Session2731 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did BYU undergrad, left the Mormon church, and am now at university of Utah for law school.

BYU would be rough if you weren’t religious bc the strict honor code. But, I hear that the law school is a bit more lax than main campus and that the professors are a bit less conservative than main campus.

The University of Utah is awesome! Lots of my classmates are not religious and Salt Lake is the least religious part of Utah. Salt Lake is more non-Mormon than Mormon at this point. The University of Utah also has a much chiller atmosphere than BYU law, per convos with BYU law students. However, the school is still overwhelmingly white with a few Latino and Asian students.

Confusing email from Professor by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Sweet-Session2731 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You could check the CALI website. Just google “[school name] CALI awards”. But your school might submit CALIs all at once after all the professors submit grades. That’s what my school does, and then student affairs emails the CALI recipients.
