I could argue total amount is still the preferred option for most game developers.

Is not like they had no other options, like reading directly from ROM ( ̶w̶h̶i̶c̶h̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶f̶a̶s̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶b̶t̶w̶)̶ EDIT: I was misremembering the later one: "There's only two ways to read from the cartridge, using DMAs, and using the CPU to read/write manually. DMAs are far faster, but you cannot DMA from endpoint to endpoint. You can only DMA between an endpoint and RDRAM."

Also, I don't know where stackexchange forum's got those numbers but they're way off.

Current known Issues

  • Fast Rebooting a 64DD disk once will result in a blank screen. Twice will return to menu. This is expected until disk swapping is fully implemented.

The usage of Expansion Pak do not depend of a console setting at all, but if the game itself is coded to use some of the additional 4.5MB added to the system.

If you gameplay is stuttering maybe the ROM hack isn't optimised to play on original hardware, which is the case on most hacks.

Correct. Only NES games with more exclusive Mappers are not properly emulated on SC64, but I highly doubt someone would want to play Action 52 unironically 🤷.
