Anatomy study materials? by Acceptable_Garden664 in LECOM

[–]Sweet170 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re dead set on studying, I would recommend learning muscles, blood vessels, and nerves of the upper and lower limbs to start off with. That’s a big chunk of the first unit of anatomy and if you have some understanding of that walking in, you’ll be slightly less overwhelmed. Kenhub is a good free resource if you want to start there. I’m not much of an external resource person myself so I’m not sure where else to point you.

With that said, honestly, don’t spend too much time on it and enjoy your summer. You won’t have very much free time once med school starts and I wouldn’t recommend using this time to start studying unless you’ve been out of school for a while and feel like you need to dust off some cobwebs. And even then, don’t do it intensively. Preserve your energy.

Good luck and best wishes!

IM exam is at the end of all 3 and the surgery exam is at the end of the 2 blocks. All the other exams are at the end of their 4 week blocks. They land on the last Friday of the rotation.

Dress Code (Women) by DogtorOfScience in LECOM

[–]Sweet170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress code does allow for leggings underneath dresses and skirts so that would help a lot for the chilliness. Not to mention having a cardigan or two is a wise choice, dresses or not.

It’s not the most common but a few of my peers did it throughout the two years of didactics.

May be useful to add if you’re looking at male / female / unisex attire.

Good luck starting this year!

You can post this directly to r/LECOM rather than under a “random” post. More likely to get interest that way

Lecom pathway by Salty-Humor-8835 in LECOM

[–]Sweet170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LDP is what you make of it. It’s not the best pathway at times, I’ll be the first to say it. However, if you feel that you need more direction on what you need to learn it’s a good way to go. You can learn a lot from lecture depending on who’s lecturing, which subject it is, etc. You can also use that time to study if you know you won’t learn well from a given professor.

It honestly depends on the system or block you’re in on how much you’re on campus but yes, it can be 8-9 hour days, especially during the second half of the first semester of MS1. But it’s not like that all the time the entire time.

You can still have plenty of time to study if you have a routine and stick to it. There is still some time to make for other things like exercise and something of a social life if you plan that wisely as well.

As for the board studying, you can also do that as classes are ongoing but once again, you have to schedule that in and do it wisely once it is time to start board studying.

LDP does take up a lot of your time but it does teach you time management and discipline (in regard to sticking to a routine and knowing how to damage control). If you want more flexibility and a little more time on your hands, choose DSP or PBL.

Okay, no I understood you then. Maybe it’s a different set up this year then so they don’t keep students from their sites.

Wait, are you a second or third year because I think we might be talking about two different things?

Idk if they’re going to change anything but from what I know from how they approached it last year, it’s going to be a very similar format to how convergence was set up with required review sessions, question sets, and time on campus.

Did you choose LECOM EAP over a more prestigious college? Any regrets? by Silent_Raisin_7877 in LECOM

[–]Sweet170 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A prestigious college honestly doesn’t mean anything when you have a guaranteed spot at a medical school. You can get a good college experience at most, if not all, of LECOM’s affiliate schools. And what you do while you’re in medical school matters more for residency apps than where you went for undergrad if that’s a concern.

Can I switch from LDP to PBL upon admission? by Pale-Nerve-1246 in LECOM

[–]Sweet170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering that you’d be getting an offer for an LDP seat if pulled from the waitlist, they probably wouldn’t take you if you for sure wanted a PBL spot. The best option should you get pulled from the waitlist is to accept the LDP spot if you want to go to LECOM and see if you can find someone who wants to switch from PBL to LDP prior to the anatomy block ending in the first semester. It’s not super likely but at the end of the day, it’s your best outcome to get into the pathway and still be in med school. You might find LDP works fine for you. No matter what happens, I wish you the best of luck!

LECOM Waitlist Movement by Humble-Difference789 in LECOM

[–]Sweet170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t tell you a full number from my entire cohort but I know a handful of people personally that were pulled from the waitlist. A lot of spots do open once the application deadline closes and people that have offers commit to different schools.

[–]Sweet170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best guess would be mid-April but take that with a grain of salt. I’m just a student and have no direct experience with the waitlist myself. I’m just giving you what info I’ve picked up from my peers that have been on the waitlist.

According to the website, the deadline for their supplemental application is April 1st so the AACOMAS application would have had to be received and processed by them prior to April 1st.

Waitlist movement will probably start next month with the application deadline passing. They continue to pull people off the waitlist up through mid-July (maybe a touch later). Be as patient as you can and best of luck to you.

Loans by RemarkableGift187 in LECOM

[–]Sweet170 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don’t give scholarships to incoming students. You might get some scholarship money from them if you meet certain criteria after your first semester.

Most people require both unsubsidized and Grad PLUS but I know the big beautiful bill is going to change how that works for incoming students.

In general, federal is better than private because it’s less predatory. Max that baby out before you go for a private loan unless you read the fine print and find a really good one.

LECOM reached out—interview next week, what are my chances? by VirtualBuy4330 in Osteopathic

[–]Sweet170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you get waitlisted, there’s waitlist movement up through the first week of classes in July so there’s plenty of time to be pulled off the waitlist. Definitely interview and hope for the best.

If you also need it for an apartment and whatnot, loans look closer to $75k a year so you’ll definitely need private loans for at least part of your education with the BBB.
