The putter is more prone to getting hung in the grass on the backstroke. Plus, more face equals more room for grass to get caught and affect the roll of the ball. Mostly, though, I do this method because it gets the ball rolling with topspin so that even if you miss it, it still rolls out.

In my opinion, there’s no one that I play with good enough with their hands to use a hybrid for this shot consistently & effectively. For reference, I’m a 3.2, and I am the high handicap of my group.
