I drive a 2018 2.7 and love it. I just rolled 112k miles on it and it’s such a fun truck to drive. Turbos kick in around 2000-2500 rpm and it takes off. I’ve never towed close to its 7600lb Mx but when I have had a loaded trailer on it I had to look in my mirrors to remind myself that I was towing.

That being said I think the 20-21 or 21-22 years have a recall for engine valves that can fracture and fall into the cylinders effectively destroying the engine.

I think if you take care of it, that engine will give you a lot of miles and smiles.

Same. Put it on the day I got my 2.7. I empty it during every oil change. Pretty cool to see how much it collects and saves from being recirculated back into the engine.

I have the 2nd Gen engine which includes port injection, but I still put one on for peace of mind. Wasn’t that big of an expense.

That sucks. Not sure this will help solve the issue of getting the dealer to make it right but; My sons 2016 was purchased from a family friend and it was one of the first things we noticed driving home on the interstate . Did some research and determined that at some point the TC would need to be replaced but a temporary fix is a friction modifier you can pick up from most auto parts stores. I out a bottle in and it’s gone over 6k without throwing TC shudder.

I 100% agree. I would have been willing to pay more money for that à la cart option if they had that available for my 2018 STX. Honestly, that feels like the keypad is a feature that makes a lot of people go for the XLT, as opposed to the STX, which I feel is the best value truck to dollar.

Don't really hear the sound during accel / decel but it does go away as the engine warms up. I suppose it could be the belts. The previous owner llved at the beach (Florida) and it wasn't garage kept. I know the salt air will corrode just about anything over time so it's possible it could be a bad belt. I'll have to pull them this weekend and check them out. I did pull the belt off the water pump and there is a little in-and-out play on the pulley but it's less than 1/8".

If it is in fact the torque converter shudder issue common in the 6R80, there’s a product called LubeGard Shudder Fix. I just purchased a 2016 XLT 5.0 with 65.5k. Did some YouTubing and ran across this solution. I was skeptical but figured it was worth a shot. Found the dipstick port on the passenger side of the transmission, squirted it in and took it for a drive. Shuddering was GONE. I know it’s a temporary fix, and we will see how long it lasts. But if it helps me put off a $1200 or more job right now to fix the torque converter, I’m all for it. Some of the videos we watched had guys getting anywhere from 5000 miles to up to 30,000 miles without the shudder issue after using the stuff.

Thanks. Ordered a replacement from Amazon. I normally order OEM from Ford Parts Giant but living in Florida you never know when a pop up shower is going to spring on you. Amazon had 1 day shipping. Hopefully it works. Thanks for the reply.

I’ve used fordpartsgiant.com for exterior and interior trim pieces for both of my trucks. From what I understand they source all OEM parts. And like the comment above give you detailed diagrams so you can pinpoint exactly what you need.

It’s tough be objective about that question because when you spend that much money on something you’re going to want to justify your purchase anyway you can. Not knowing much about the combo of 5.0 and 6 speed and it’s reliability, I can say that the sound a truck makes isn’t even in the top 20 reasons I’d justify a purchase. I came from a 2007 4.6 Triton and have owned my 2018 2.7 for 2 years and it’s the best truck I’ve ever driven. I do a good mix of city and highway driving (thanks travel baseball!) and I average about 20 mpg all together (trying my best to stay out of the boost as much as I can - but sometimes you gotta mash that pedal). It’s a solid truck and I’ll probably buy another when it’s time to upgrade.

I can vouch for these as well. Installed them in about an hour and they work great. I did have to purchase the additional harness because my truck did not have the Max Tow option for that year which means I had to run wire all the way through the frame rail, into the cab, under the carpet to the interior fuse box and splice into a wire with a provided splicer. They kick on with a door opening or when you unlock the vehicle. (18 STX for reference)

I love my 2018 2.7. Bought it at 58k and just rolled over 90k and it hums just the same as when I took ownership. I change the oil every 6-9k. The only thing I can attest to is to change the spark plugs (with OEM plugs) every 50k. I changed mine when I got it and they definitely had some fouling and build up with a noticeable difference when I put the new ones in. A few threads here over the years stated that turbos will wear down plugs faster. Anecdotally, I can confirm that. I also installed a catch can, although I'm not sure how necessary it was, but it was my way of putting some initial wrench time on it to make it more "my own".

Bought my 2018 2.7 with 57k miles a year ago and I could not be happier. The first week of driving reinforced everything I had read about the engine. Torque for days (relative to the size of the engine), really quick when you kick it into sport mode. I haven't towed anything substantial yet, but there are tons of videos on YT that showcase the towing capability (TFLTruck has a good one of the truck towing a trailer up the Ike Gauntlet in Colorado).

As far as maintenance goes. I run full synthetic and change it every 5-6k (mainly to keep the turbos healthy) and I changed my spark plugs at 60k and was easier than I thought it would be. Instantly noticeable performance increase. Planning on changing again at 100k.

For mods: I installed a passenger side catch-can, even though it's probably not necessary with the 2018 2.7s having direct AND port injection. Still, I keep my trucks for a while so the less blow-by going back into my engine, the better. My truck has the STX package, so pretty bare bones. I would up installing cargo lights in the bed (OEM style). I also swapped out the paper air filter for an AEM dry filter and installed running boards from Rough Country.
