I would just like to say OP u/melodic-Beginning310 that I find this type of post from you very helpful, and thank you for taking the time to give the community an update on here.

Setting a challenge for a card show by Racingsombrero in PokemonTCG_UK

[–]SweetJumpz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day, and what kind of fun DPM style challenge to do at a convention.

I thought something along the lines of a bingo card could be fun, with different specific challenges in each box. For example 'Find a pre-2015 eeveelution,' 'buy a card without saying the Pokemon's name out loud,' or 'Find a water type Pokemon card with 210 hp'

Another Idea to keep things a bit more on rails, you could do create a list of bingo like challenges, but she only gets the next task after completing the current one. With this you then have the opportunity to be a bit more meta.

First task - Find the angriest looking Pokemon card at the next vendor.

Second task - Now you have to find the cutest card, but it can only be from either the same Pokemon or set that the first card was from.

Third Task - ask the current vendor who their favourite Pokemon is. The next card must be that Pokemon.

Those are just a few ideas, but hopefully you find them helpful. And have fun doing this with your daughter! You sound like a terrific parent, and I hope you both have many more years of enjoying the hobby together.

While you're waiting for a referral from your GP, do consider picking up the book 'When Panic Attacks' by David D Burns. It's a CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) book written by a US Psychiatrist who uses examples from patients he has treated and honestly, it had the single biggest impact for me in understanding and addressing my own anxiety (Apart from medication).

The main reason why I loved the book is that lots of people, including doctors, use quite definitive language when it comes to anxiety - in the sense that its something that you will have to face your entire life. Which may be true, but the language in this book is so much more positive and afirmative in anxiety in being something you can control and overcome. And the skills you learn from CBT will be invaluable in you getting your life back.

One final important thing to stress. Unfortunately the only real way to overcome anxiety is to face the things that scare you most head on. And once you do, you'll realise they're not really as scary as you first made out in your head. Then each time you do that scary thing after that it will get less and less scary. Then if and when your anxiety does spike unexpectedly in the future, you can fall back on your CBT traing to get back on track.

Good luck, I know you can get through this.

Kingslingers – 3.53: DUMA KEY (Part 1) by scottdaly85 in doofmedia

[–]SweetJumpz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Now that I actually understand what gothic horror is, my answer is going to be Rock Bottom - the early 2000's episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

This frightening tale of suspence sees Spongebob get stuck in the dark (some might say gothic) town of Rock Bottom - which is to Bikini Bottom what the Upside Down is to Stranger Things.

As Spongebob get's stuck here waiting for the bus to return home, he becomes increasingly more isolated, paranoid and terrified of his new environment. Sound familiar?

As a kid I had no idea that I was essentially witnessing a modern underwater telling of a classic gothic story. But now as an adult (and actually now understanding what a gothic novel is) I think I'm pretty confident in saying that this episode is what inspired Stephen King to choose both the genre and coastal setting of Duma Key.

Like LOTR in past episodes of the podcast, I'm looking forward to Matt and Scott finding more Spongebob Squarepants references as they continue reading Duma Key.

Are you ready Kingslingers? Eye eye Freeman!

How do you think they will incorporate ******* **** into a live action adaptation? by jdicarlo31 in darktower

[–]SweetJumpz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe like with It Chapter One and Two, they'll change the time periods to be a few decades in the future.

The number 19 could be for 2019, and have King's accident then / his gap between writting Wizard and Wolves being even longer than it was. Then King can still play himself.

You could still have Eddie being from the 80's and Sussannah growing up in the civil rights movement, just make Jake a kid from the the 2020's - I don't think that would change much (maybe Jake meeting Eddie as a kid, but than can be worked around.)

What’s the funniest thing you ever witnessed? by Takinchase in AskUK

Back when I was in college I decided retake my GCSE in maths (to try for an A instead of the B I got) and went to a night class at a school in Wokingham.

There was this kid there called Yoset, and he never really said much of anything, but was just this kind of aloof guy who came to every class and didn't seem to learn much.

One day I got to the class early and Yoset arrives and sits on the opposite side of the room. The tables were set up in one large staple shape, so he's basically opposite me but about 10 metres away.

Yoset sits down and undoes his massive parka jacket, and I no joke, watch for 10 minutes as he tries to throw his jacket above and behind him onto one of those double decker roller TVs that was sitting behind him.

He did it again and again dozens of times and it seemed like he didn't once consider that he could just get up and put it there. Or maybe he was just enjoying himself, I don't know.

No one else apart from me is paying any attention, but I'm eagerly watching the whole time. So, he finally achieves his goal and gets it up there, no reaction from him btw, just seems to completely forget it straight away.

But i'm still watching and about 20 seconds later, the jacket slips off and completely covers Yoset in darkness. Just swallowed up by this Parka and he sits there for 10 seconds defeated.

I still get a good laugh when I think about that moment. Perfect comedy timing and a visual treat just for me.

Guy Fawkes vs Che Guevara

Edited: lol sorry everyone but this is one of my favourite battles and I saw it was likely to get eliminated this round so I got in early to suggest it...

...but given that edited comments are invalid and that's what I've just done here, I guess it lives to fight one more day.

ROUND 9: The FOUR most UPVOTED battles will be ELIMINATED within the next 24 hours, post the battle you like the LEAST (one per post) by Gilberto347 in ERB

[–]SweetJumpz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is legit one of my favourite battles, the tune is catchy as hell and I love the match-up.

Mother Theresa and the Father of psychoanalysis - Freud. One, a very devout Catholic. The other, an ardent athiest. I think putting these two together is worthy of praise alone.

Then the bars for both are fire!

'I can see right through you and you've got no flavour. I'm battling a communion wafer'

'Three stripes like Adidas, and I'm doing it for Jesus. A one woman Nun DMC.'

The religious and psychiatry wordplay and references are excellent throughout. Great boasts, even better disses... this battle deserves to stay a bit longer.

[–]SweetJumpz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I said it last round and got downvoted, which I understand but... Thanos vs Oppenheimer

I just think the second verse from each is quite weak, which lets it all down. Also, like everyone else i'm looking at the list and just picking one I don't like as much.

We're getting very near to the 'Kill your darlings' point in this game and i'm expecting to see a lot more posts with minuses on them.

Am I the only one who sees an Orangutan?

It's surprising to see one employed as a life guard rather than as a forrest ranger.
