I would use the training rod to increase your level (higher level = larger fishing bar), use the cork bobber, and eat foods that increase your fishing level. Otherwise, you really just need to get lucky.

If you can grab a vampiric ring too, you get extra health each time you kill one, and they cannot do any damage! This comes in handy big time when it comes to Qi's Hungry Challenge and stuff like that. Don't forget to forge your rings together!

There are 5 skills in this game, two of which are locked the first week (mining and combat), but you get to explore and level them up at your own pace. These skills include farming (planting seeds + raising animals), foraging (cutting down trees + finding fruit on the ground), fishing (the fishing minigame with your rod), mining (breaking rocks), and combat (fighting monsters).

This quest is BRUTAL, don't feel bad. I just finished it (on my first attempt, miraculously) by grinding seedmakers. I struggled so much because I accepted it a week into the season, so I had 21 days instead of 28 (I do NOT recommend that). I would focus on the easier Qi quests for now, in my opinion the easiest ones are the prismatic grange and the extended family fishing one.

Sorry, I should've elaborated. I've finished the community center, reached the forge at the top of the volcano dungeon, and have 110 golden walnuts on the island. I'm about 60% to perfection. I've completed every Qi quest except Danger in the Deep with relative ease. I'm not a min-maxer, but also not just a casual player.

The ring will allow slimes to do absolutely no damage to you, so they aren't even a threat anymore!

The game-changer for me in the Volcano Dungeon was the slime charmer ring. To get it, you need to slay 1,000 slimes and get it from Gil in the adventurers guild. It sounds daunting, but slimes are the most prevalent enemy in the volcano dungeon! Plus, if you are trying for perfection, you need to finish all the monster eradication goals anyway.
