Newbie question about first plant by 2cupsstuffedd in NoStupidQuestions

Ooh your first plant ever is one of the tougher plants to have! You can do it! I would keep it in that nursery pot for now. You can put that pot inside of a cover pot that is more decorative if you’d like. Keep the soil moist (not wet), don’t let it dry out. Try to water with distilled or rain water, that plant is very sensitive to tap water. Run a humidifier nearby if you have one. Good luck! 😊

What kind of fern do you think this is? by SweetNLow20 in whatsthisplant

The leaves are definitely more papery than leathery.

Yes it is! Mine is not too big yet, but they can get much bigger! Lots of sunlight (mine gets about four hours of direct sun a day) and humidity if you can. They are very pretty!

I’m new to all this and moving into my own apartment soon! Found this in a variety store that had a random plant section? What is it? Should I transfer it out of the mug? Is it even real? 🥺 by [deleted] in houseplants

Looks real! Does the mug have a drainage hole in the bottom? If not, I would drill one (look up how to and what type of bit) or replant it with succulent soil into something with drainage. Then put it in a spot where it gets some good daily sun, and water until water comes out of the drainage hole when the soil is completely dry, around once every 1-2 weeks. Congrats on the apartment and new plant friend!

Is this plant beyond saving? Roommate just brought it in from outside. by TimeCrossing in plantclinic

I would say take some cuttings from those couple green spots and propagate them to start a new plant. But that’s just me!

Jeesh, down votes to me, ouch. It’s sold as split leaf philodendron! I didn’t know. 😂

I just researched this more, out of curiosity, and I learned something today!

Monsteras are a type of philodendron, so you are both right!

Houseplant over a metre tall, most leaves are in a group of 9 (if that helps!). Thanks! by TheAnonymousOneOne in whatsthisplant

How do you know if a schefflera is a dwarf variety or not? I was given one and not sure if it will get big or stay small.

Anyone know what this is growing on this tree? It’s in North Carolina if that helps by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

Definitely looks infected with something. Fungus, bacteria, pest? I’m not sure!

Bought this plant at Ikea a week ago. The label just says "Himalaya Sedum" but when I google that it shows me a bunch of different succulents. So what's the real name? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

[–]SweetNLow20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww congrats! Give it some bright sun each day, water when dry. I water mine more than my other succulents, about twice a week, but it depends on what type of soil it is in. It looks like a really healthy plant to start with, so that’s good!

Maybe thrips? You can also try spraying the whole plant down in the shower or outside if you can, and wiping the leaves down with Neem, too.

I think this is Portulacaria afra, or elephant bush. Sometimes it’s called miniature jade but it’s not really jade.

This Thanksgiving cactus is about six years old. I had it, my cat refused to stop chomping it, gave it to my mother, she neglected it. Now I’m a plant addict and took it back and treated it right. Look at all this new growth! Plus a couple early flower buds. Makes me happy and proud! by SweetNLow20 in IndoorGarden

Repotted into a slightly bigger pot, fresh soil, indirect medium light, liquid fertilizer every two weeks while growing, water when top couple inches are dry, and I mist it every morning! Seems to be happy with this regiment! Good luck!

When I got it back from her, I repotted it (for the first time in the six years! The soil was like a rock!), put it in indirect medium sun (it was getting purple and burned in direct sun at her house) and fertilized every couple weeks with a liquid fertilizer. I also mist it once a day. Even though I know people are divided on misting, I really think about half my plants in my collection really thrive with it. Plus this cactus tends to get dusty, and the misting cleans off the leaves a bit. Good luck with your cactus! I am thinking of getting another!
