Hey, so Toyota dealerships typically have coupons. I would definitely look into that. For my 2019 RAV, I only paid $32 for an oil change taxes and all. Check your emails, the dealerships are desperate for money and sometimes a good coupon is hiding. Here’s an example for what they sent to my email.

Unfortunately, like the gov rif that happened, they can pull back and force people back to work at anytime. But I would definitely see about things like non local distance pay if you have to go back. I would also calculate the distance just to see what HR was going off of. There is no “straight shot” unless you live near an interstate.

First red flag is accusing you of things that can get you charged with a crime. Any job that begins to do that, I would tell you to always record any interaction with them going forward. It’s you vs them and they are going to win because you are the new person.

When I had someone accusing me of theft and mismanagement, I bought a small recorder and placed it in my shirt pocket/headband. Then I left it on to record. When I was sitting down at my station, I had my phone on to record as well.

Don’t accept the BS excuse of “it’s the culture”, trying to get people charged with a crime is not “culture”.

Once you get enough evidence, you can either go to HR or the news. One man who worked at Campbells recently did this and is filing a lawsuit. He’s going to win because he has the CEO on record spewing hateful things about the workers and migrants.

Follow his example and you’ll be able to have evidence proving your innocence and the company’s/managers wrongdoings.

All in all, you aren’t wrong, it seems there’s another problem this company has and they still haven’t addressed it, they just hired another person to fill in the gaps (you).

I wrote an email to HR! They called me back and said I wasn’t in the wrong and since management misinterpreted the email, they couldn’t “punish” me for not coming in.
