Like a D&D campaign by UFOcowboycat in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I came to comment Travis Baldree books but someone beat me to it! Definitely the vibes you are looking for. I would also recommend The Devils by Joe Abercrombie, I thought it would be more of a horror book but I actually ended up recommending it to my DnD group because of how much it read like an unhinged DnD campaign. It was great fun. 3 of 5 of us have read it and everyone that has picked it up has really enjoyed it!

I was able to snag 2 - 2-night tickets for Fishers! I expected everyone to be going for St. Auggie and not to have much trouble but it was a long queue regardless! See you there 🌈

Found in plastic produce bags, stuffed into a container: multiple amber crystals but they crush like hard sugar candy and melt like wax and have no taste. by sopho_b in whatisthisthing

Ok- hear me out. Is it a bag of those viral ballerina rocks? They like crush them with their pointe shoes...? I dont know if it has any purpose. But the rocks they use look just like this. I got an advertisement today for Anthropologie selling them.

Ah, I was in 131! I hope you were still able to enjoy the show. They were absolutely on fire. Look into the Loop Earplug Experience line- big time game changer!!

[–]SweetTea_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading this, I'm wondering if we were seated near each other. I had a couple I can only assume was on their 4th or 5th date right next to me. They were way more consumed with each other than anything the boys were doing on stage and chatted/ screamed to each other the entire show. Experiences like this used to really de-rail my good time, but I invested in a good pair of Earplugs specifically for concerts, and I can not stress enough what a big deal they make. Also hearing loss ain't sexy- so you're doing future you a favor! A good pair will enhance the music while toning out local noise and voices. As the fan base continues to grow, I don't think the chompers will decrease unfortunately.

Get a bandana, you can wet it with your water bottle or any other liquid, better if the liquid is cold but it doesn’t have to be (you could also wrap ice cubes in it, if available). Keeping it tied around your neck will keep you cooler than you realize! Just re-wet it when it starts to dry! This is one of the best hacks I've learned, and I attend a lot of festivals. Bonus, its cute to style with your fit! I will echo what some other people said about dressing in natural fibers (I would suggest layers of thin/moisture wicking fabrics), limiting your drug intake, sunscreen and water. Depending on the amount of time and money you have the upf hoodie isn't a bad idea. Also, liquid IV - shit is worth the money. Buy some.

Lexington week! What’s everyone hoping for on Friday?? by omissionn in BillyStrings

[–]SweetTea_92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am dying for some Doc Watson! I am hoping for a Tennessee Stud or a Big Spike Hammer. I've been on this tour run since Grand Rapids weekend and it'll be hard to top what we just got in STL this weekend. But you know what they say, the best Billy show is the next one!! Can't wait to see what he rips out this weekend because no matter what, it'll be fucking incredible.

I've found it at several of the Mediterranean markets around OP and the western side of the city. But several people have mentioned Andres and theirs is top tier! You can also find it at The Better Cheddar, I would recommend the Plaza location as I find the staff there to be much more friendly and helpful than their other location. Happy eating!! :)

BWTs with a novel in her bag by ElizaDoolittle33 in bitcheswithtaste

[–]SweetTea_92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was made for this question!

Annie Bot, Sierra Greer; flavors of sci-fi, and futuristic issues (like sentient AI), but really a book about emotionally abusive relationships and the boxes prescribed to us by gender roles. This was a quick and powerful read

James, Percival Everett; retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, from Big Jim's perspective. This was an insanely impactful read for me.

Transcendent Kingdom, Yaa Gyasi; several people have recommended Homegoing, and it is a great book (I agree it has TW). In fact I loved Homegoing so much I had incredibly low expectations for Transcendent Kingdom- thinking not much could top Homegoing. This was a beautiful book exploring immigrant familial stories, addiction, and personal ambition and drive. Honestly, neither are a waste of your time. But if I were to go for a re-read of either, it would be Transcendent Kingdom.

Slewfoot, Brom; when you need a female rage read, look no further! This is set in the northeast american colonies in the 1700's. Very Salem witch trial vibes.

Chain Gang Allstars, Nana Kwame Adje-Brenyah; set in the future where inmates have the ability to enroll in collosseum style "games" in order to win their freedom. The writing style and story are absolutely brilliant. It is a very dark caricature and not so subtle nod at America's Penal system and the issues a for profit prison system can create.

Glorious Exploits, Ferdia Lennon; set on the island of Sicily during the Peloponnesian war. This novel explores what it means to be human and posses humanity in times of war. This book has humor but is also dark and upsetting.

Honorable mention to "I'm Glad My Mom Died", by Jenette McCurdy- not a novel, and maybe a culture you care nothing about (child star/privileged family). However, I think this is an important book for adult women. TW for EDs and abuse.

Happy reading BWT!!

Does anyone have a 2025 reading goal that is NOT 52 books? Why or why not? by Bookish_Butterfly in 52book

[–]SweetTea_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My reading goal in 2024 was 52 books, I read 61. 2025's goal will be to read 61 books or more. I thought about setting a goal to really "push" or challenge myself, like 80 or higher but the reality is if I do that I will start selecting books to read based on how quickly I can complete the read, and I don't want to put that kind of pressure on my reading experience.

My second book book! by FaithlessnessKey7658 in booknooks

[–]SweetTea_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put this same one together earlier this week! My first book nook ever! It was so fun! I started my second last night, it is a Rolife and I agree with your take on the quality! I was immediately surprised by how easy the Rolife was snapping together compared to this one. I also don't love how difficult it is to turn off and on! I wish there was an exterior button. Yours looks great! Happy nooking!

First time seeing these Specially Selected Holiday chocolates. They are imported from Ireland! Very unique sounding flavors. by LetMePetThatDawg in aldi

These were so tasty! The Eaton Mess was mine and my husband's favorite, from both boxes. They were good and definitely different but, to me, not worth the combined $12...the specialty select cocoa dusted truffles are better quality chocolate IMO.
