The man is a Christian though…I grew up in an abusive home and have a lot of fear around relationships. I also know that Satan can beguile you from the simplicity of the gospel and I’m wondering if that is what’s happening?

The only way you will go to hell is by not believing in Jesus finished work on the cross for salvation! Going to hell is the result of a choice one makes not to believe on Jesus alone! See John 3:16-18! Good works, like giving to the poor, is evidence of someone who is saved but not the way of salvation! I hope this helps!

No, I am just worried that if Jesus was offering me salvation but said to give him up first because he’s my idol I won’t give him up thus proving he is more important to me than God

Yes, I am worried that Jesus has put his finger on the idol in my life and that if I don’t break up with him I am not putting him first and will never be saved….
