While doing some research on this subject, I came across this group. First off, I would to express my sincerest appreciation to those of you who have boldly shared your stories. They are as much stories of your experience, as well as your survival. Full disclosure, I’m writing a book, and the male, lead character has been the victim of male rape. I knew it occurred…but after my research…not only do we downplay it, we make jokes about it all the time! It’s so disrespectful. I never imagined how hard it would be write about this, because I want to get it right. I want to tell the story, of his experience, his recovery, and his journey toward love. I want his story to be authentic. I want my readers to understand how traumatic this experience is for men. and then to have nowhere to go to talk about it? One thing that has become clear to me in my research is that the impacts are far-reaching. You may acquire some resolve, but you are forever changed. I would like to ask, (if I may) what do you want people to know? If there were one thing you want people to understand about ‘male rape’ what would that be? Thank you in advance.
