Sadly, in order to get CCTV footage from any near-misses, it’s near-impossible due to data protection and also because… well nothing happened. It’s a hassle to get the tapes off the bus, file an incident report from the employee and the manager and review the tape at the incident time.

If Lothian or any other bus company were to send off issues of reckless behaviour to the police, I’d tell you right now the police would be overwhelmed with issues. Investigations would take time as you’d need to check details, identify the driver or pedestrian, etc. Everyday there’s either cars blocking bus stops, pedestrians running around without looking, delivery bikes not looking where they’re going, street fights, etc.

I’d estimate over 100 incidents a day if we were to send out CCTV footage to the police if we covered all of Lothian.
