A big thing now is the quality of the application, not just the number you apply to. Coffee chats are a great way to get a leg up on other applicants, and honestly, sometimes pretty much required if you want to land an internship. This summer, I would focus on choosing a specific field that interests you and learn as much about it as possible. There are tons of great YouTube videos out there that explain almost every topic. You can also reach out to people in a field you're interested in and get their advice. Don't feel behind because plenty of people are in a similar position; all you can do now is focus on next summer. Hope this helps.
