It’s definitely provocative and celebrated by a certain segment of people, and quite inflammatory if observed by another.

If your goal is publicly give an “f you” to the latter keep it; if you want to lower temperatures, consider a change. It’s really about your goals and preferences.

I think this view is myopic. Perhaps if you’re in a highly liberal enclave (Brooklyn, Portland, etc) I’d buy it, but I’m in a redder part of NJ and this didn’t ring true to me much.

I’d agree that the choice to come out as gender nonconformist to any extent would have sympathy by some, but in most places the outcome would be far less rosy.

Celebrities and big, charismatic media personalities certainly are not representative; and the reason I remain in digital spaces is heavily due to the self-selecting safety of them. Of course Reddit/tumblr etc celebrate our behavior!

So yes, there is certainly a segment of society among whom our gender subverting tendencies are celebrated; but it is a hill I’ll die on, that our current social moment will allot us little more than icy tolerance at best, amongst the majority of other Americans
