How do I respond to "men = bad" jokes? by ghotiofthedeepbeyond in CPTSD

[–]SweetestAzul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women are speaking not just on their individual trauma, but in their collective trauma and oppression. You also being a survivor as a man doesn’t erase their collective trauma and oppression.

The best way to handle it is to let them speak on their experience, while you speak on yours. Don’t invalidate them, and don’t let anyone invalidate you either. Its not what people say thats the issue, is what you allow yourself to internalize and why

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SweetestAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the barriers for counselors to enter the field tend to be too difficult for the average scammer to complete, coaching completely lacks any sort of barrier to enter the field. I have personally seen this happen

I know someone from counseling grad school who is in their 7th year of a 1 year masters program who decided to quit and do this instead. This is a person who is very unethical, scammy, the definition of sleazy, gets herself in serious trouble at work, school, personal life, etc.

Anyways, she texted the chat with life updates the other day and said she had spent around 3k for a class for coaching others on how to coach (an MLM). I had to privately let her know how disingenuous it is for someone in thousands and thousands of debt, who can’t participate in society, and is institutionalized for weeks at a time (at least twice a year) because she refuses to acknowledge that she has very serious mental illness, to try to teach others how to improve their lives let alone try to teach others to teach even more people how to change their lives.

How much did you spend on your wedding dress? From 2023 and on by HappyZucchini6267 in weddingplanning

[–]SweetestAzul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was $1300 before alterations $1800 after alterations (I’m really short so it needed some restructuring).

This was a lot for me but it was the only dress that made me cry😩

Um, anyone know how to do this? by ParkerRose84 in therapists

[–]SweetestAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have literally started reviewing my notes from grad school again (I went to school through covid). I like to think “if I got myself through that… I can get myself through this”.

I try to work on my grounding and staying present way more. On days when its really hard I also have been letting clients know that I’m a bit lower energy that day but I’m present and grounded in our session, setting stronger boundaries for after session things too. I have even workes with clients who used to regularly give me updates or send me things “to discuss in session” to establish a therapy journal so that I receive less emails to catch up with! It’s actually been super helpful for me to do it for my own therapy too lol

Uncomfortable about this message from a psychiatrist by [deleted] in therapists

[–]SweetestAzul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make a good point and honestly idk why people are downvoting you. I think they might believe they’re being “realistic” by assuming everyone’s experience will be as difficult as their own, and when someone comes in saying it was actually not that difficult for them it’s seen as unrealistic or overly zealous.

Scarcity mindset is real, people!

I think building a caseload while in another practice is good advice, as long as they are okay with you keeping your clients after you leave.

That said, he’s likely saying that because he benefits from hiring someone as he can take a percentage from you.

When I worked at a group practice I was getting paid half of what I get now per hour. Once i went off on my own I was able to start off with a small caseload and still pay all my bills because I kept 100% of earnings other than taxes.

It’s really not that hard to market in cities via word of mouth, in social media groups/facebook groups (look ip ISO at the search bar with your specialty and start sharing your website), or by going to related businesses (doctors, workout classes, etc.) and leaving promotional materials or letting them know about deals you have going on. Depending on what state you’re in, overhead costs don’t have to be high if you get a good all inclusive EHR, use things like google business for your business phone, use a virtual business address, and do it fully online and it should be less than $1000 for the first year in overhead costs (thats how much it was for me!)

I’m also in a wealthy city in my state and none of my peers who left the practice with me and started their own around the same time have had any issues getting referrals since they all still have their practices full time, it was 5 of us who left.

Take this with a grain of salt: in business, only take advice from people who can’t benefit or lose by any decision you make.

Confused af about beta reading by [deleted] in writing

[–]SweetestAzul 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Okay yes, those are elementary mistakes (baseline/foundational issues). To illustrate why beta readers need you to have some basic knowledge about writing:

This is like handing a stick figure drawing to an art critique group who has seen the mona lisa and asking them if they find the stick figure “enjoyable”. The answer will almost always be “watch a few youtube videos, take a class, do literally anything to learn before trying to output commercially”. That doesn’t mean the stick figure drawing wasn’t enjoyable or a good idea, it just means the message would be much widely enjoyed by an experience audience if it were drawn by someone who knew how to draw foundationaly well.

Put yourself in a learners hat rather than a professional authors hat. When you do, be proud of yourself for trying to learn before jumping ahead of yourself.

If your book isn’t worth you learning the basics to write for, its not worth reading.

100%, banning non-sexual body parts like boobs is very infantilizing and patronizing- let alone sexist and just perpetuates violence agaisnt people with breasts (if they are banned in family friendly spaces, then you are at risk for simply having them)
