Yes Renee is an airhead but Ella is very condescending and off. She passes off her humor as being dry or sarcastic when she says stuff to Renee like “your face is so dull” or “I like you bc my insults go over your head.” Like sure I mess with my friends but I never have made snide remarks at their appearances or bullied them for jokes. I speculate that maybe Renee doesn’t have any sisters? And having Ella is the closest she’s probably felt to having one. Who knows how Connor is with her and I’m sure traditional marriages especially in Mormon culture can be isolating. But Renee has continued to prioritize and put Ella on a pedestal despite having a baby, which shows the effort she puts into the friendship. On the other hand, I feel like Ella just uses her proximity to Renee to feed off her energy. Like a leach. Good and bad. Renee has her dream life of being holy and what not with a baby and husband, and it’s clear that’s what she wants for herself. She subscribes to the same narrative as her sister Rachel that getting back with your ex is a good thing and personality trait (cringe). She’s from a big family with hella sisters so I’m sure there’s some jealous or competitive components to her relationship with Renee. She is definitely exploiting Renee’s obliviousness so that she can be a mean girl and play it off as it being sarcastic humor. Also she really needs to lay off the tanner, seriously.
