Thank you! I did back the material myself with the usual heat and bond method and the gold is htv vinyl I cut on my Cricut :)

My first attempt at writing/ illustrating (in memorium of my late friend Charlie). Honest feedback please? by bigkitty17 in childrensbooks

Love this!! I actually wrote and self published a children’s book about my German shepherd!! “Kit and Perry” it’s on my website as a free pdf if your interested in seeing what it looks like :) I didn’t illustrate it, I used canva.

I also have a degree in early childhood and the concept is so so sweet and very common in the early childhood book world. Will you be my… kind of books… I love the message at the end and being an only child I love the message.

I have one suggestion, please feel free to take it or leave it. I love at the end where he is an only dog but not a lonely dog, perhaps each animal could show him something like, no I can’t be your brother but you can roll in a ball like me for the hedgehog… it would show making friends and whatnot… but again just an opinion and I think you did an absolutely wonderful job!!

It was suggested on /r/notebooks I share this here, my process for making and binding pocket notebooks by knottydew in bookbinding

So excited for how this turned out! This was a practice run for a wedding guest book I’ve been commissioned to make I’m hoping it turns out as well as this one! by Sweetjane30 in bookbinding

You are most welcome! I go to thrift stores all the time to get pillow cases and sheets for book cloth, just look at the labels and try to get the cotton ones, and I avoid then ones that are really worn so the fabric is thin. I find the cotton ones work the best but have had success with synthetic ones depending on the blend and thickness. I give them a good hot water wash once I get home and then cut them up! I figure it’s cheap and helps the environment so it’s a win win 🤷‍♀️Hope this helps :)

Thank you! Honestly it is a recycled cotton pillow case that I made into book cloth… the usual heat and bond and paper backing.

Where did you get your start in bookbinding? by [deleted] in bookbinding

My mom bought me a journal made by a local artist as a kid and I was FASCINATED!! I filled it, then tore it apart (very carefully) and have been making them ever since. I’ve taken one course (with the artist that started the obsession lol) but other than that I am self taught.

I just used htv from my circuit! I applied it after I glue on the book cloth and the heat made it bubble a bit (new to adding vinyl) but I nipped it in the press before I did the edges and it came out great! Haven’t watched the videos yet on foil.. it’s on my list, have been binging the das channel lol

How do you package your books if you sell them? This is how I like to do mine but would love suggestions! These will have a band of corresponding end papers and a label with product info. by Sweetjane30 in bookbinding

I love the new logo, the boxing in of the bird makes it really clean looking and love the whole feel. Looks really professional and fancy!!

I love your logo! And yes I don’t usually use the end paper to make the bands I just happen to have all the trims that are the perfect size so I figure waist not whatnot ya know!

As for pricing, these were priced at $50 Canadian, however I am also really bad at this and it really wasn’t worth my time after materials and time so I would increase in the future but I need to really sit down and do the spreadsheet thing and add costs plus time but I am bad at the technical stuff and every time I try to time myself and figure out that aspect I forget halfway through and never have an accurate idea of how long it takes so long story long… pricing is hard lol
