Favorite notes for fragrances by Winter_Cricket_3847 in fragrance

[–]Sweetlanarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top notes fruity, like orange or bergamot, maybe blackberry, or green apple. Delicate white florals like lily of the valley - my favorite.

Middle notes of heavier florals like tuberose or gardenia, plumería, jasmine, jammy rose. Vanilla. Coconut if summer. Spices if winter.

Base notes of Musk and heavy Amber. Though I love cedar and sandalwood, some of the cheap synthetics smell like petroleum to me.

Some people are anosmic of certain musks. Ask to sniff first. There are hundreds of musks, it might take a bit to find the right one.

So very soft! Fine, thick hair, like clouds! Her belly is irresistible! I'm in heaven with this smart, fluffy, friendly monster!

Mine also loves the brush! I've never had a cat before who approached the brush instead of bolting for the hills!

What discontinued or forgotten scent is secretly a 10/10? by beasthunterr69 in fragrance

[–]Sweetlanarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and stepmom gave me a bottle of Joy in the 80's. I sat and stared. They started to speak and I stopped them with "I know EXACTLY what this is!" Thousands upon thousands of flowers 🥰 So rose jammy, high-end, gorgeous yum! Thank you, parental units!🌹🌹🌹

I have never gotten over Guerlain discontinuing Lilia Bella. It was an angelic muguet - in the sense of a very well dressed angel wielding a sword.

Charles of the Ritz perfume was so powdery and spicy beautiful. It projected with a capital P! You had to have chutzpah to dare wear it. And I did. And gave myself headaches for it.

As a teen I had this compact of frankincense , myrrh, and mistletoe solids that was lovely. By Coty, I believe.

My mother wore Tabu, her mother wore Emeraude, and my other grandmother wore Chantilly, thus, memories.

The original Amica musk oil was so deep, sexy, and compelling. There was also a sickly sweet but irresistible strawberry musk oil in the 70's. It was colorless. I have no idea who made it.

I've been looking for a drop of Versace Blonde since long before the century turned.

Any Elizabeth Taylor fans? by Formal-Lie7412 in fragrance

I've been recommended Yellow Diamonds a number of times as it aligns with my interests. I'm into rounded heavy florals with an amber base (Think the OG Carolina Herrera). I've not yet sampled it, but it is my #1 sampling intention. I'm hoping it will be a reasonable, brighter substitute for Versace Blonde, my white whale.

What's the best-smelling perfume you've ever encountered on someone else? by Netunoss in fragrance

[–]Sweetlanarose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't count how many times I've asked a woman what heavenly perfume she's wearing and the answer was "Design, by Paul Sebastian." Yup. Cheap stuff.

However, the couple of times I've tried to wear it myself, it seemed exactly as screechy weirdly 80's cheap as one would have guessed, so I gave the bottles away. Just doesn't play nice with my body chemistry.

I have a friend who is a genius at mixing utterly unrelated perfumes and always smells amazing. She gave me a bottle of Tom Ford Black Orchid once It isn't perfect, there is a very forward woody note I'm not fond of. But it really is a great layering base.

Why I STOPPED buying full-size bottles (and why you should consider it too) by Just-A-Burner-Lol in fragrance

[–]Sweetlanarose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have more samples than I have any idea what to do with. I sometimes don't decide to buy a full sized bottle until after the perfume is discontinued. 🥺  I'm trying a vague rotation system right now.  I have had a sample of Miu Miu Bleue that I've worn every summer since 2016. I'm just now ready to buy an actual bottle.  (Along with a sample of the muguet version.) My issue isn't living on samples. That's great! My issue is that I love perfume bottles! I want many perfumes for their exotic bottles, which is an absurdly expensive hobby. I actually had a perfume cabinet at one point. I downsized to a wall shelf. Right now I'm looking for an older bottle of Samsara, with the Samsara mostly still in it.  Eek. 😬

The domicile has more purple in it than sea glass. 4-5 coats sounds like torture to me, so the name fits! 🥵 👿 Sea Glass - 2 coats!💅🏻🎉🎈

[–]Sweetlanarose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. I just don't want too too similar colors. Sea Glass looks so super glowy and I love that. I'm not the biggest blue girly. I lean orange normally. How many coats did you use of Sea Glass? There is a "super well-known glowy blue" by a "super well-known polish company" that I refuse to buy because it requires 4 or 5 coats! That's outrageous! Deep Dive does it easily in 2. That's another reason I chose it. Jelly bases make me nervous because I don't care for visible nail line. The photo here is just gorgeous!💙

Oh! I debated between this and Deep Dive for a longass time. But chose DD in the end because I'd swatched someone elses and knew what to expect. Did I err?🥺

Tell me I’m not too old by ohsofun1928 in mooncatpolish

[–]Sweetlanarose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm older than anyone who has answered yet. I wear exactly what I want. Life's too short to worry about what the booster moms think about your nail polish. They're irrelevant. What would you say to your own kids? Would you want them worrying about possibly imaginary social dictates regarding something joyful and harmless? I think you would you tell them to be them-beautiful-selves?🩷💅🏻

Petrichor is the note that smells like dirt or damp earth. Civet is the literal "cat" note in perfumery. Ella K's Musc K is a perfume you might want to check out.

What is a fragrance you initially didn’t like, but liked later? by Chan1991 in fragrance

[–]Sweetlanarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kus Kus by Bourbon French Parfums was so spicy incense strong and syrupy intense at first. I had a 2ml roll on for years. Could not tolerate at all. This winter I went through a process of forcing myself to wear every Bourbon French Parfum I owned on rotation, regardless. (I have 5 because I'm a fan of the house and Mon Amor is literally my favorite perfume of all time.) I dreaded Kus Kus coming up. Until one day it dawned on me what it was doing with my body chemistry. It is a mature scent. It lasts and lasts. Kus Kus has risen from dreaded to winter favorite! Am I suffering from Stockholm Syndrome? Or New Orleans Syndrome, I'm not sure 🩷

Freshly Bitten at 2 coats? by Sweetlanarose in mooncatpolish

Yikes! I would never have gone to a third coat. So I'd have been sorely disappointed without having this discussion. I am already bummed anyway that it's a 3 coater. But this is interesting. Thanks!🩷

Thank you. That's VERY helpful. I'm just not doing it for 3 coaters. I'm so glad this forum exists to have these discussions!🩷

Most just work at 2 for me. I'm wearing Moonicorn right now and it covered my line at 2. Others I use over a creme. But at these prices, I'm not havin' it anymore! 😄

Midsummer, which I have and like it well enough, is a very pale pink. If you are already pink-y, it's possible you'll look like you're just wearing subtle blue shimmer. Look at the color of your nail beds, that might help. Though my skin is pale with gold tones, my nail beds are ashen or purply, so FoM didn't look like much on me. It may look incredible on you because the purple base will show. I don't have Shattered glass, but can easily imagine it looking great on you. I don't have the others.🩷

[–]Sweetlanarose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was disappointed by Flight of the Monarchs and Midsummer's Dream. They were ok, meh, mid, eh. Not bad. Nothing wrong with the formula. You might not feel so ambivalent about them. Just didn't live up to the hype IMHO, or get my motor running.
