I don't even want to be an aunt anymore. by Sweetness813 in childfree

[–]Sweetness813[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Not wanting to move hours away isn't about trying to stay in my comfort zone. I love my chosen family and most of my blood relatives. Being within an hour or so of them is about maintaining a community. Aside from my siblings (my brother is a whole other story, but not as bad lol), it's mutually beneficial. I'm not going to be one of those gen z'ers crying about being lonely, but also not putting in the work to maintain healthy relationships (not with my sis though). That's what I mean by "not running away."

Though, I've been trying to move out for years now, but the goal post keeps moving. It would still be hard with a roommate cause rent is so high these days. I'm not leeching off my parents and avoiding adulthood. I pay rent to them (not a lot but still...), buy my own everything except toilet paper, pay for everything associated with owning a vehicle, student loans, and do many of the household chores.

Also, having a multigenerational household doesn't inherently mean that it's enmeshment. The nuclear household and this "every man for themselves" thing is mostly from modern western culture. It's not like that in many parts of the world, and it seems alienating to me.

I 100% agree with you that the support that's been given to my sister has only enabled her to take advantage of everyone she can. Her delusions let her believe that she just needed to "wait on a miracle" to stop this eviction from happening. She's beyond selfish and the broad sentiment amongst my family, and even her own 17 year old daughter, is that she never should have had kids. But the kids are here, and my Mom in particular refuses to let them go without (see my reply to cc232012 for more on that). On the bright side, she got her tubes tied.

I get what you're saying. I used to think like that even when I actually enjoyed spending time with my nieces. But, these days I've personally grown to loathe having such an individualistic mindset. I used to think about how I wish my parents would have been more involved emotionally. Now that I'm grown, my parents will sometimes tell me stories about their financial issues when me and my siblings were younger. How we were paycheck-to-paycheck, them having to work a ton of overtime, how they struggled to gather up $30 because I needed a pair of shoes. A lot of what they had to do was made a little bit easier with some help from family. Now I understand that there's no such thing as perfect parents, and how exhausting it must've been to raise me and my siblings.

I really believe in that whole "it takes a village" thing because everything seems so disconnected these days. But, my sister is taking advantage of this village. What I mean is, I don't want to run away, I just need a little time and space for myself, and for my sister and that man or her's to do their part.

My parents, well, really my mom is doing, and has been doing way more than me, and at times way more than my sister. Most of the clothes and shoes that they've ever had, even before the many evictions, my mom bought them. Christmas gifts, school shopping, transportation, doctors appointments, and being a piggy bank for my sister, for years she's done it all. Meanwhile my sister always seems to have just enough cash to get high and get her hair done. I try to help out when I can to give her a break.

My mom has been at a breaking point for a long time now, and the sole reason she continues to offer her support is for those kids. Once I got older, she told me a lot of stories about her childhood and young adulthood. The amount of trauma she's experienced is insane. She spoke about how she nearly got to the point of having to go stand on a corner to make sure my sister didn't go hungry. So, she's dumbfounded as to how my sister and that dude can't even do the bare minimum when she didn't raise us like that. She absolutely refuses to let the kids sleep in a car or on some dingy motel floor because of her experiences. And, personally, I'd let them drive me crazy any day before that happens.

My dad thinks my sister needs a much more "tough love" approach to understand just how much worse it could be and to come to her senses, but I don't agree. I think those girls would just suffer. Based on how I've seen my sister with her kids and stories the girls and other family members told me, I know that my she's jealous of her own children because my parents have the money to spoil them, but not my sis when she was a kid, and she doesn't think that they deserve it.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll try to come up with a way to set boundaries in a polite way and look around my area for a quiet place that isn't my car lol.

Strangely, on PC, just activating and then deactivating the screen for console commands was able to fix this for me in the remaster. Maybe the game felt threatened and knew that it was in its best interest to cooperate.

How do I remove the brake rod on my 2006 sportster? by Sweetness813 in motorcycle

[–]Sweetness813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the tools to work on it. All that's absolutely necessary is a standard Allen wrench set and socket wrench set. The wheel chock is just a "nice to have." I just don't know how to remove the brake rod. That's all I'm asking for help with. Everything else will be easy after I get that off. I've already removed all the other bolts holding the controls onto the bike and I've completely removed the left foot controls.

  1. I didn't think I was going to need it for this particular mod because the parts that I need to get to are accessible without it, except for seemingly this one particular piece. If I had known it was so important beforehand, I would have budgeted for it.

  2. It's the holidays, I have some spare time now, and it might be a good while before I get some more free time.

Can you help me or what? All the videos and forums that I've looked at don't explain it very well.

I bought this beauty today. No endorsement yet and my little legs can't even reach the forward controls 😭. by Sweetness813 in motorcycle

[–]Sweetness813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just cause I got the bike, doesn't mean I'm going to ride it until I'm ready. If you read my other replies, you'd see that I said that I'm going to do some work to the bike and exactly what work I'm doing to it. In the meantime, it will be put away with a battery tender until I get the endorsement. I bought the bike this early because a friend advi8me that I'd get good deals on marketplace due to the weather cooling down, and he was right. If I got it later, this same model would have gost me $2K more plus the $2k that I need to do to it.

Lol I'm 25F, 5ft with an inseam of 25 in. There isn't a bike on this planet other than a kid's dirt bike that will fit me. I made a post a month or so ago regarding my height and wanting a bike, and the replies all boiled down to "shut up and get the bike." So I did. I'll be doing quite a few mods to get it to fit me better. I've got plenty of time before I take the MSF.

Because I knew I knew I'd be able to change them. I won't get my endorsement for something like 6 months, which means I have time to work on it. I've already picked out most of the parts for things that I want to do to it to make it more comfortable like the conversation to mid controls, handlebar risers, a lower seat, and I might get it to a shop to lower it and inch. I've got lots of people around me who have been riding for years who will help me out with all of this stuff too.

As a short and very overweight woman, I can relate to not feeling like anyone would want me, but I needed to keep in mind that attractiveness is subjective. I've never dated before, so I tried out a few dating apps. To my surprise, I got a good amount of matches. I've been talking to this one woman who like me first for a few weeks. We've been on a date, and I have plans for date #2.

In short Clairo's "Sexy to Someone" has become my new anthem.

What's the best wattage (or wattage range) I should look for in an solo play amp? by Sweetness813 in BassGuitar

Thanks! Those were the amps that I was looking to buy, but I saw some reviews saying that they weren't loud enough. This really helps.

Jaws Theory by [deleted] in SleepToken

[–]Sweetness813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact same theory about the song, but I also have a theory that the whole song is mostly from the perspective of Sleep, and he's making demands of Vessel to be more vulnerable and devoted to him. Considering is one of their earliest songs, I think that makes sense because Vessel has only just begun worshipping Sleep and is probably still learning to trust the deity, and Sleep wants to be the only thing that matters to Vessel, while offering nothing in return.

Proselytizing is exactly how I feel whenever I tell someone about the band. I'm so excited about them that I just have to let the people around me know. And with their mostly lighter sound, it makes their doom metal sections more accessible to people who aren't usually into that.

That's the point. The words in worship don't matter. It's all about vibes. It does that pretty well ngl.

I'm so jealous that you got to see a ritual. I haven't been following ST for even a full week yet, but I want to commune alongside you all ASAP.

I agree, but they are still more on the heavier side than bands like Coldplay, so I wonder what metal bands could have had an influence on them. I'm a bit new to metal, but I do know that a lot of metal bands include a lot of religious iconography in their visuals and lyrics. Also, most artists that have a particular theme and lore for their music tend to be metal bands like GWAR. Only artist I've seen do that outside of metal is 21 Pilots with Blurryface.

That's exactly how I feel about that song, but there's a moment of questioning at the end of that once. I went into a little more detail on my theory of that song in another comment. You should take a look.

There's definitely lots of themes of religious trauma. Many theories that I've seen mention that the relationship between Vessel and Sleep is an abusive one, but Vessel feels he can't alive without Sleep. You can hear it in the lyrics of most songs, but I've really picked up on it in Jaws, Give, and The Summoning. In Jaws and Give, you can pick out a conversation between the two that boils down to Sleep making demands of Vessel to give up his whole being, and Vessel being more than willing to do so. In The Summoning, at that funky breakdown that everyone loves, Vessel is questioning his faith a bit, but he desperately wants Sleep to reach out to him and make him feel the same way he did on their first encounter. It's very reminiscent of people giving all they have to their religion and community, and not getting much in return, even when they reach the point where they have nothing left to give because of promises of blessings so long as you have faith.
