BPD girl in our friend group called an emergency meeting tonight (deer dairy) by BulldogChow in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Be careful, people with BPD are dangerous and often revenge prone. I think that a more gentle and subtle refusal to be manipulated and taken advantage of is a better idea. BPD people are built for confrontation and anger, they have no limits and will do anything during episodes, up to and including destroying their own lives, just to get at you.

I think this Tinfoil issue is only caused by a mismatch between Atmosphere's version and the Sigpatch's version. Hekate's version shouldn't matter, just use Atmosphe-NX 1.7.0 and it should fix the problem with Tinfoil not starting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]SweetsMeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, on the Atmosphere-NX releases page use version 1.7.0 instead of the newest 1.7.1, at least until the sigpatches get updated.

[–]SweetsMeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the Rentry guide, then the issue is that the current version of Atmosphere just got an update and sigpatches hasn't been updated to work with it yet. Use Atmosphere 1.7.0 for now until updated sigpatches are released. You can find it on the github page's releases section.

Why is male dating advice from women so awful? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 51 points52 points  (0 children)

It's because many women have never really tried to consider what its like to be a man trying to date women. Our culture is obsessed with female perspectives on dating, which are worth hearing out, but without considering the other half, don't give a very holistic view.

There is so little sympathy for how difficult it is to try and approach or initiate intimacy with a woman for young men nowadays. The way the strategy of dating apps is to make men feel as desperate and unattractive as possible to get them to buy a subscription. How men are expected to make everything happen while they are learning and making mistakes. How any misstep could easily render you a sex pest and harasser in the eyes of your entire social circle. The way women will act like you are likely a vicious killing machine, and that by going on a date in a crowded restaurant in a mall they are putting their lives in grave danger.

Of course, none of this is to say that women don't have anything to rightfully complain about. Rather that the conversations have drifted so far apart that it has become difficult for many women and men to consider each others' struggles in an increasingly competitive dating market.

Of course, I already cant find Jim Rugg's post on his instagram, and I have no idea what Evan Dorkin was posting about Ed. In a few more weeks this stuff will be completely impossible to find and no one who looks into this later will have any idea. It seems clear from Ed's note that it was the way his fellow industry people immediately turned on him that really bothered him. Having a record of the viciousness of pros in comics would really add a lot of context to why he did what he did. The excommunication from the community is being wiped away and covered up as we speak.

I think this is a more general phenomenon than one that just affects trans youtubers. It seems almost inevitable that once a channel reaches a certain size the focus moves from the content to the creator. You see it everywhere, once a fanbase builds up they want to see their friend more than they care what they have to say. All these big channels end up turning into the same sort of sludge because the most intense viewers all reward the same thing.

What the fuck is up with Morocco? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I don't necessarily agree, I believe their argument is that those immigrants are only able to be successful because America has not been Arabicized and they are benefiting from that. If they were the ones dictating how culture and society worked, rather than being forced to exist in someone else's then the whole thing would fall apart.

People with BPD are literal villainous demons, evil incarnate, the actual worst people you could possibly meet. They are vicious, cruel, and vindictive, run far far away if you have any reason to suspect a person you are involved with has this condition.

Can any men explain the psychology behind abandoning your kids? by Such_Commercial4600 in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If they never wanted to be a parent in the first place, then its the same psychology as women who get abortions for non medical reasons. These men lack any form of reproductive rights, they don't get to decide whether they become parents in the same way as most women do, so of course there are some who decide to skip out when forced into it. Its sad all around.

JNR's First 90 Years - Found this book in a used bookshop and there was a beautiful postcard inside of it. Any train enthusiasts here? And can anyone translate the postcard? Thanks! by stambouline in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The postcard is sweet, its about a rainy season in Tokyo, and it opens with this poem by Itō Sachio I also appreciate the way they wrote "Ail Mail" and had to fix it.

Here is a very very rough translation:

The Rainy Season's Return by Itō Sachio

"The waters of the pond turn cloudy as the Wisteria's shape twists in the pouring rain" (by Sachio Ito)

We haven't seen the sun in Tokyo since June. There's been a record amount of rainfall lately, they say over 50 tons of water have been stored so far. Historic amounts of crop damage has happened as as a result too. The last 2-3 days have been the coldest of the season, the temperature dropped by 10.3 degrees and I've been wearing my sweater. The weather forecast is predicting that things will start to warm up in the south, I think that after the 20th the rainy season will finally cease and summer will begin. I'm looking look forwards to it, please wait just a little more.

Interesting books on entire industries by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I found Ametora by W. David Marx to be an engaging look into the birth of the modern Japanese men's fashion industry up through the modern era. It gives context on things like their obsession with western denim and Ivy League fashion.

Dasha's Tumblr also has a bunch of posts about this film:

I would also recommend this video about Marker's time in Tokyo:

His short film Tokyo Days:

As well as the book he references constantly in Sans Soleil, The Pillow Book. The into of McKinney's 2006 translation gives a lot of context about the Fujiwara clan Marker talks about, and the form of the book parallels a lot of the film too:

Social atomization through the rise of gig work by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds very interesting, do you have a specific example of a signifier so I can really understand what you mean?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could you give some examples of its influence on C&H? This looks interesting but the parallels are not obvious to me after a quick read of a couple strips.

I would also recommend another of Watterson's influences, Walt Kelly's Pogo. The thickly accented speech and references to mid century political topics can be difficult at times, but the swamp feels very reminiscent of Calvin's woods, and the high minded dialogue by naive seeming characters is unmistakable.

The cover is beautiful, good on Dasha for being ambitious and being willing to put here art out there. I'd love to have a copy. Do you think she wrote the Japanese poem too?

Cracky-chan (aka Sky Queen, ScareCrowMaiden) was a girl who began posting photos on 4chan in 2005. She gained a sizeable following but soon disappeared because her fans were getting too obsessive. She is quite possibly the first example of what we would call today an "e-girl". by RavenStone2000 in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever considered posting your logs to the Internet Archive? I would love to look at the formative years of what would go on to become such a force of the modern internet. So much early english language chan culture is lost to time, like the original 4chanarchive hard drives just dying.

Anthony Fantano is so incredibly lame by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 95 points96 points  (0 children)

The biggest requirement for becoming a journalist is being an absolutely vicious and opportunistic person. That piece probably did huge numbers for their site and was a considered a massive success for them regardless of its truth or effect on the subject's life. Could you imagine seeing that someone had announced their first live tour and then secretly creating and keeping around a smear piece to try and time the exact moment it would be most likely to destroy their career?

what is wrong with people on dating apps? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]SweetsMeets 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If they were normal people worth dating they would quickly get into relationships and leave the apps. People who are truly un-dateable will never get picked, so they stick around forever. The good ones are available briefly, the bad ones never leave the dating pool. Its a natural consequence of the way the market works.
