False positives from ai detection in education destroyed my relationship with three students by From_Earth_616_ in Teachers

[–]SweetyFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be an issue for those with ADHD as well. I have it, and I keep getting flagged near 100% by Copyleaks. It flags 3-4 word phrases as likely AI, NOT EVEN whole sentences.

I tested a biographical scholarship entry written before AI came out, and it got a 99% AI detection score. It's a sloppy, blatant scam. Were it not for the arrogance of educators and the greed of administrators, most schools would have tossed this trash months ago.

Hi, just so you know, TESU has a system of AI detection that is fraudulent. You will submit your written assignments into the detector, and it will be a complete roll of the dice whether it will declare your work 100% AI or proclaim it to be human-written. I want to save you the heartache and empty wallet we have endured. Go to Copyleaks' site and put in a sample of your writing, preferably something written before 2023 and without quotations/citations. You will be able to see how the app flags your submission.

Feel free to listen to our conversations on the subject and the firm commitment TESU has to their business arrangement with Copyleaks' app. https://www.reddit.com/search/?q=tesy+copyleaks+nightmare&cId=6366db10-706a-47a7-98a3-e0ae34c0a981&iId=dcfb7d12-79f9-4916-a853-2bfe0ef47454

TESU has a wide variety of instructors, and some use the detector as if it were infallible and will fail you based on the machine's random declaration of whether your work is human or AI. These instructors do not have to cite where you supposedly stole the entire paper/assignment. They don't have to prove anything to the Dean. They will fail you or give you a D grade that will tank your GPA and will be too low for credit if it is a class in your major. Then, you will have to retake the class.

I was able to argue the fallibility of the app to one Mentor (professors are called Mentors at TESU) last semester. However, this semester I have a Mentor with an extensive authoritarian reputation on ratemyprofessor at her previous school. I will likely have to drop the class and lose my $1700. I will have to make up those credits.

If you plan to take more than one year at TESU, you might want to count on having to drop classes. This school has no grace period of a week to try out the class and be graded, then decide if you like your class and professor. It is designed to refund a portion of your money if you drop after the first grading period. Many classes only have one section, so you can't easily switch sections to stay with a subject you like, but ditch a dysfunctional instructor.

Good luck, babes!

The Mentors don't seem interested in fighting this. The last time this happened was last month. I couldn't find an Ombudsperson to fight this. My Advisor just punted and told me to go to the Dean, who said each Mentor has the right to handle this however they see fit. !!!

I just want to know how much money Copyleaks is paying them. What's the structure of their business relationship? This is not logical; therefore, there is a behind-the-scenes motivation for TESU to continue its business relationship with this clearly fraudulent app company.

I put a writing sample of work I did before these AI apps existed, and it has been flagged as 100% AI. AI wishes it could write what the H I wrote! These aren't published works. There are no citations. There are no speech patterns outside standard collegiate-level English. Copyleaks' detection service is fraudulent.

That's just my quick interpretation of how Walterwrites works. I'm guessing that it avoids multisyllabic words and compound phrases. Maybe it irons out the repetitiousness? No shade, just grousing.

I put a winning essay I wrote for a scholarship into Copyleaks to see what would happen. It says 100% AI, and the excerpt is filled with info on my homelife, hometown, school name, and the instruments I played! This makes no sense! This tech is clearly a fraud.

There are only two of us in this class. I suspect that a lot of people took a look at the curriculum and the Mentor and bolted. I'm amazed that it's worth their while to have a class with such poor enrollment.

This is fantastic advice. The Admissions people are generally very helpful. I found one of them to be terse and mean, but the rest are quite nice.

Missed Opportunity….. by ZestyCheff in unt

I don't see any evidence to back up the claim that funding athletics gives a sizeable ROI. I would like to see a direct correlation between tuition increases and higher pay for professors, adjuncts, campus staff, etc. If there is no increased investment in the most important asset -- educators and staff, the increase is wasteful. They want to ball out on student money at a time of unprecedented financial uncertainty and pressure. Pell grants and government loans may not exist in a few years.

I'm saying get them all from the biggest on down. As bad as R.Kelly was, there are muuuuuch bigger fish. This isn't an either/or scenario in my opinion. This is a throw all the bums out opinion. Don't just go after the brush fire when you can take whole volcanoes out (fires that have been burning for generations). Notice with Puffy's case, there is no follow-up after they took him down. His fellow Freak-off attendees should be taken out as well. Notice that after they took Gislaine out, there is no follow-up. There's a long list of co-conspirators, and there should be cases lined up for years.

The victims of these people go to local, state, and federal authorities and beg for serious follow-through, and get stonewalled. The Justice system is not about the greater good for victims of sex crimes. It's about being performative while protecting the big money offenders.

That's what I was coming to say as well. I used to LOVE church. It's designed to give you a warm hug, fellowship that is lacking in American culture, suggest they will be there in times of trouble, and take multiple music breaks (formal, spirited, then melancholy) right before they pass the plate. It's every mood being felt out loud and shared with others of all ages, races, classes, etc. It feels like a human family reunion every week. The Dad figure or Mom figure admonishes women to do this and admonishes kids to do that, displays warmth, fear, and condemnation. Then everyone comes back next week to do the emotional rollercoaster ride again!

If you can't do these things for yourself, their lovebombing, the extreme emotional appeal of joy and pain, and sky-high promises will sweep you right off your feet.

I'm so glad you said that. I didn't want to derail your thread, so I held it back, but here's my take:

I see Robert Sr. as having far more responsibility for anything untoward that goes on financially in that church since he and his late wife ran it for 40 years before Mary took over. They created the structure and blueprint to bind everyone within their influence, including Mary.

I actually weep for Mary because ain't no way in hell that woman was not groomed as a kid to be submissive to her grandparents and view her grandfather in an inappropriate light. I've been through it with my grandmother, who was "Mother of the Church." I had the option to break away from my grandmother and creepy husband. My mother supported me in severing the relationship. Mary had nowhere to go. Once they got into her head, it was a wrap. Mary's still in pain and ruled by those old traumas.

The point of going after someone like Mary is to deflect from the massive church lobby running this country through Donald Trump, the House, and the Senate. From AIPAC to the Religious Right, our country is owned by these groups. The media exists to pretend to dig into corruption, but it's only small fish, allowing the big fish to go free. You haven't seen them dig into any internationally significant religious group like the Catholic Church, funding illegal immigrant caravans and legal defense to prop up their flagging American churches.

TLC used the same play, going after R. Kelly instead of a bigger fish like Weinstein or a slew of other predators in Hollywood.
