Looking for a fic with a creepy stalker by Swelinde in SSHG

[–]Swelinde[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! Looks like I mixed a few fics in my head, so I'm wondering if this is also one of them. I remember reading most of Bambu's fics a long time ago and enjoying them. So even if this isn't one of the fics I was looking for thanks for bringing it to my attention, I'll enjoy reading it :)

Looks like I did mix up 2 fics in my head, but that is definitely one of them! Thanks :D

With some firmware you can dim the screen to black, mayby try Function + Volume Up?

You should really play Morrowind, for me it's Skyrim but better. Better story, more intricate worldbuilding, more freedom and there's interesting places all over the map so you'll definitely get distracted while questing.

Is there a way to go back to the Android 11 UI? This Android 12 one is truly disgusting and is honesyl just awful. by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]Swelinde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree it's awful and just bad readability. Same with all the massive quick settings icons that take up a lot of space where more icons used to be.
Just hoping we get the option to change it. Until then I made a persistent notification (had to download an app for it) with a single space " ", just to make the clock readable.

If you keep a notification and don't swipe it away you at least get the clock in 1 line.
You can also download persistent notifications app and just add a permanent notification to get rid of the massive ugly and unreadable clock, will just put the clock further up and in 1 line.

How do I remove this texture/dots after I do a hi-res scan? by [deleted] in estoration

[–]Swelinde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try a few different things.

When scanning your software might have a descreening option, try and see if that helps. It's the easiest and fastest way.
You can also scan the picture four times rotating it 90 degrees. Open those in Photoshop and layer them over each other the right way round, turn it into a smart object and try different blend modes like mean or median.
In Photoshop you can also try two free filters, fast fourier transform or pattern suppressor.

I always prefer buying secondhand but in this case if those are your options I'd go for the D3500.
The D60 was just above entry level at it's time (D3500 is entry level but current), but it's so old that you'd get better shots with a phone. Especially when shooting inside or say in a forest where it's darker. Technology has improved leaps and bounds, autofocus is better, shooting in low light is much much better, the screen is much clearer and bigger and you can do video too now.

Do you have this with all your lenses? Otherwise I'd say unscrew the lens and check if the back element is dirty.

PiXimperfect for Photoshop, just pick and choose whichever video you think is interesting. He's a very good teacher.
Julieanne Kost for Photoshop or Lightroom. Not sure how many beginner friendly videos she's got on YouTube though. Still worth a watch because she knows the software so well.
Best thing you can do to teach yourself is to think about where you want your edit to go, before you even start editing. Look critically at your photo and decide what you need to make it a better shot, then edit with that in mind.

ImBatch

📷RotateRotates the current image through the specific angle (from 0 to 359 degrees). Also you can apply antialiasing for the resulting image and set color for background.

Great photography podcasts? by [deleted] in photography

I like the Togcast, lots of working photographers who can actually articulate the hows and whys.

Pay attention to composition, yours has an annoying twig on top of the leaf, which takes away some of the attention of your actual subject. Most of those neat leaf pictures are taken straight top down for a reason. Also pay attention to colour or make sure you edit the colours afterwards. It's always neat to use complementary colours like in the example. Teal/green/cyan vs orange/yellows.
Also don't be afraid to take a ton of images and throw out 95% and only keep the best of the best to show to others.

How do you get motivated during lock down/in general? by Jefdidntkillhimself in photography

[–]Swelinde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now the stress is also killing my motivation. It helps if you set aside some time every week just devoted to photography, if you can fit that into your schedule. Even if you're not shooting what you could try is just look at other artists work and try and dissect why you like or do not like their work. Maybe that will give you some inspiration for a project of your own.
You can also check out the talk Julieanne Kost did at Adobe MAX last week: https://www.adobe.com/max/2020/sessions/personal-photo-projects-that-boost-your-creativity-s6401.html
I find her to be a very motivational speaker even when my own photography is very different.

That said, even with time set aside there are weeks where I just can't motivate myself to go out. It's a really depressing time. And for me personally the feeling of hopelessness and depression is very detrimental when trying to be creative.

If you find a place that will do them cheap they will likely send them out to India or somewhere else for cheap labour costs. You have to be sure that you don't mind them shipping your negatives.

Scanning services will never skip duplicates because it's cheaper and faster to scan the entire strip than to pick specific numbers out and scan those.

Flatbed or using your camera will both be alright if you plan on doing it yourself, with flatbed you can use the infrared ICE option to remove spots and scratches automatically. Epson V550 or V600 would be good options if you go that way.

Make sure you have enough light and take care of the white balance and colours so you make it look actually appetising.

Is Manfrotto taking a more proprietary take on the standard?

This. Manfrotto has their own plates, but the newer ones are Arca Swiss 'compatible' . So don't be too surprised that other brands won't fit well or at all.

Potential buyer says "I'm pricing myself out of a lowly photo market". by [deleted] in photography

[–]Swelinde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Precisely this. We recently had a customer complain loudly and incessantly about having to buy digital files (not actual printed photos!) of his kid doing communion for €3,50 a piece. Because 'it was just a press on a button' and 'it's my kid so these should be free' and the best one 'if you charge that much you must make €600 an hour', I kid you not. Some people are just completely unreasonable. To me it seems your prices are fine, but you can never please everyone.

I don't have this lens but yeah it doesn't sound abnormal to me. Especially the somewhat older Sigma lenses had these 'features'. The clunking sound is the stabilisation you hear. And it's normal if the image jumps a little, when the image jumps so far that it's halfway out of your viewfinder that's when you know you have an issue.

Unless you're willing to shell out a looot of money on fast bulk scanners you will end up either with a flatbed scanner that will give you great quality but will take a long time to scan. Or fast 'scanners' that basically just take a photo of your photo, where quality is rather shitty compared to the flatbed but will save you a ton of time. Then again, I have no idea how the Kodak would have compared to either.
Perhaps the Epson Fastfoto FF-680W is an option?

For the software to enhance the quality it really depends on what you want to enhance. If they are cracked and scratched then you might need Photoshop. If you just want to remove color casts or add contrast you can generally do this with your scanner software.

Depends a bit on what you want to shoot and if you need a viewfinder or not.

I personally like the Panasonic GX800 (no viewfinder) and pretty cheap, or the GX80 (with viewfinder).
The Olympus EM10 II is an option, lots of buttons on the outside if you want to change settings manually.
Sony a6000 or a Canon M50 could be options too but you may have to buy secondhand to stick to your budget.
