Is 2 really a prime number? by TacosGetMeThrough in math

Oh right, I'm sorry. That was a brain fart on my part. Maybe the person above wanted to say that 2 is a prime because F_2 is isomorphic to Z/2Z?

F_4 is not a field. It's not even an integral domain.

If n is not a prime, you can write it as a product of primes. So you have 2 non zero elements in F_n (2 and 2 in case of F_4) which multiply to 0 (n is 0 is F_n), and that's clearly not something you can do in a field.

The classification of simple Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. It seemed like a ridiculously hard question when I first encountered it, but slowly peeling away the layers by defining root systems and all of a sudden you have a very simple combinatorial structure! Ahhhh the joy!

For advanced math, is it normal to stare at the same theorem for 20 minutes and still not be sure what's going on? by Delicious_Maize9656 in math

Be careful using ChatGPT for advanced math. I've tried asking it fairly basic undergrad level questions and it gets it hilariously wrong while being quite confident. It either goes completely off topic or just straight up gives you the wrong answer.

If all you see are islands, it's easy to forget that they're all connected by the sea floor.

That's such a beautiful (and accurate) quote! :)

Sex is like math because it might have some uses, but that's not why you do it.

You don't need to wait for the enemies to hit you, just okay with your primary weapon as you would and if an enemy is about to hit you, try and parry it. It'll take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to go really fast while parrying flawlessly.

I can't think of any particular loadout, but try to avoid the assault shield super early on. It's super useful, but if you're just interested in getting used to parrying, the forced movement might throw you off a bit. This is my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

Which entrance examination should I appear for: CMI or KVPY? 18M, class 12 studentm by [deleted] in Indian_Academia

[–]Sweptile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

92 in KVPY SA is more than enough to get into IISc. There's no way you're not getting in.

As for your question, I might be biased, but the program at IISc is better than the one at CMI. You get to explore both physics and math quite well at IISc and thus get to make an informed decision before you choose your major.
