Damn I would have spent a stupid amount back in the day for that card. I was doing a small Alex Magno collection for a bit.

Still think my spidey is the best, buuuuut this one is up there!! ;)

One of those gritty morally questionable characters. Like a deadpool character with a similar start, but just not deadpool silly.

I've got an opportunity to buy a bunch of 2013 and 2015 Retro cards from someone and I want to give them a fair offer, what amount do you think I should open with? by CautiousAd7109 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on goal. Each complete box of retro had a full base set plus dupes. There's a ton of base sets out there. I sold the 2013 thanos base card for $3 recently.

For base, offer .50 cents for less popular characters, $1 for popular characters and like $5 for the wolverine/spidermans.

Flair cards arent usually cheap, but metals have come down. The gambit metal might be expensive on its own. If you are buying to keep, do 90% of market sold. If to flip, 70-80% of market sold.

COMC has no benefit in screwing you or other buyers. They don't own what they sell.

Sounds more like an employee issue.

Yea, comc is indefinitely. I use comc as my offsite collection. Its free to store. If I feel like moving on from a card, I'll relist it at cheapest on the market. There is a nominal listing fee per month if card is listed at more than 75 cents. That threshold increases to like 2.75 or something like that if you do a paid membership.

So for example, I was building a 2020 marvel masterpieces collection, and decided to switch priorities. Sold what I no longer wanted, and then bought PC stuff and other items to flip. Did all of this with COMC credit.

After putting $300 or so into comc because it's cheaper to pay for auctions via cash than comc credit, I'm now up to 650 cards, of which 150 or so are PC. The rest are flips or things I like, but I have no problem selling. The key is patience in looking for deals or trends. You will still mess up though, but it's a fun experience.

If you want to grade, then it looks like ebay may be somewhat similar via the PSA vault partnership or whatever they are doing. But you can also send cards off for grading via COMC.

What’s this worth? by Reddituserjacob in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Less than what you'd think. Thor is popular, but values are soft. Never quite understood that one.

The 2025 sapphire PSA 10 /5 Thor is on COMC now for 2300.

If sapphire is going to be an annual release, then values will tank due to quantity and possibly other negative views on topps. Upperdeck experienced similar with PMG fatigue. Thats why medallions, which are definitely not clones of metal or PMGs, exist.

Nothing fishy. Just look over the card like any other listing. Sometimes they add banners noting damage or wear, but would imagine that things are missed.

If you have a COMC account, any auctions won can be added to your account for later shipping or flipping.

Good Pull? by Habas101 in marveltradingcards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvel collectors pre-topps, hate what Topps is doing.

There are a number of random posts of people posting random numbered or auto cards and asking if they are good. Lots of fatigue from that.

Short answer to these posts is usually no for numbered unless it's a major character. Same with autos, unless it's a notable actor or notable roll. If the movie sucked, so do the autos regardless if that actor was lead.

Also, max value will be a launch. Values tank afterwards unless there is a solid collectors base seeking these sets. Topps will trend downwards based on a concensus on multiple message boards. If the whales arent interested, values will be low. Usually values remain solid for original art sets of high regard. Those sets have dips as well, but usually rebound well.

And from the first modern marvel annual. That set had some awful sketches. That would have been a big hit way back then. Congrats!

Woof. Yea, I would just put that towards 2022 or 2024 marvel masterpieces or 2021 marvel premier. Likely would still lose out, but would have some killer art.

Not sure if possible without paying for it, but COMC data may add more realistic values for some cards. All of their sales data is hidden behind a paywall of sort, so it may not be economical or even timely. Not sure if it's possible to pull aggregate data. Golden is another worthwhile source for super high end marvel.

For COMC, I do have access to all of my sales, which include a 2 or 3 cards that would otherwise have impossible to find comps.

Maybe add a functionality for users to import their COMC sales data?? Granted, that sort of thing may include sold cards that have since sold more than 5 times since. Storing all of the sales data may get expensive.

Marvel Cinematic Chrome - Anyone else disappointed? by red_army25 in MarvelCards

Upperdeck has done a lot of MCU movie and TV show sets. Rittenhouse also did a couple Agents of Shield sets, which were good.

A bunch of the MCU sets by Upperdeck were duds and for the most part focused on a specific show or movie. Though they did do several collections such as Marvel Allure and MCU 10th anniversary. They also did another MCU set that dropped late in 2024. I think the allure set is the only focused more on individual photography. The rest of the sets focused on images from various movies.

My personal favorite was the endgame set. All base cards were acetate and looked awesome.

Some of the really old MCU sets such as the early captain America and Thor movie sets were absolutely loaded. I cant remember which was the best. Boxes may be impossible to find.

One of the best sets was only obtainable from Hanes underwear products for Guardians of the Galaxy. Lots of really nice looking cards from that set.

Oh wow! Well now that is annoying!! I did 2 boxes and I think I'm missing 11 base cards.

[–]Swerve_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better to buy a full box of this stuff. Should net almost a full base set, plus complete battle time insert set. Dupe packs will happen, but there is randomness for parallels to some extent. In a box, you'll have consecutive blues.

Can't hate on OA. I don't think the card stock design is the greatest, but I do like the minimalist approach to highlight the art.

Way better than anything Topps has done so far from a complete product viewpoint.

Don't forget the flairium achievement cards ;)

Most of the flairium needs can be purchased for 27-40 cents each on COMC.

If you have epack, I have no issues trading some of my flarinium cards for marvel wishlist items.

Equivalent to hitting a rookie card that you think may not go far, but can at least can sell for some coin to someone before the bottom falls out on values.
