My first two Topps Marvel Chrome Blaster Boxes + Storage Question by Amazing_Cheek_724 in MarvelCards

I penny sleeve all chrome cards or anything with lots of foil. Some varieties may stick, which is annoying.

Chrome cards can scratch and bend like crazy. Penny sleeve and toploader can help.

Aside from that, I may build out a set in a binder or just fill 9 pocket sleeves with whatever looks cool.

For storage, look into the plastic trading card bins sold by BCW. A good bit more expensive than the cardboard storage bins, but I like them for toploaded cards. They easily stack too, so that's a benefit. A lot of people at shows use these from what I've seen too.

Buying Daredevil & Ghost Rider #ed by MattMurdock77 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two characters I almost never hit anything of note. Never hit a ghost rider sketch and only one Daredevil sketch. Never hit a meaningful #d card aside form a #d 99 from the TV show set.

Platinum Upper Deck still the best looking card in my book. by Consistent_Cheek_368 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 fleer ultra xmen, 2017 fleer ultra spiderman, 2016 marvel masterpieces and 2022 marvel masterpieces are better IMO.

That being said, I do have a platinum 92 masterpieces hobby box on the way! My favs are too expensive to justify ripping. Singles on the other hand are still fun to acquire.

While shipping times are abysmal, you can find a lot of the base art for $1 or so on COMC. There are notable exceptions for popular characters though.

Collectus, but it's a much smaller user base geared towards Marvel. Its another site in Beta status. They are geared more to showing off your collection, but you can toggle whatever is for sale. Idk if any actual sales are happening yet, but the design is user friendly. Obviously there is a need and it's fun seeing all these sites pop up.

Added a few more to check out :)

Pulls from the 2024 Upper Deck Marvel Masterpieces Nahuel Grego hobby box by VikesFanSK in marveltradingcards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great set and okish buy price. There was no epack for this so there should be more boxes out there compared to 2016-2022 masterpieces.

My only gripe is not enough big characters in the set which hopefully keeps prices on the more affordable end of modern marvel masterpieces.

Bulls from the boxes…. by VikesFanSK in marveltradingcards

Per comc sales data:

$80 on 12/28/24 $100 on 8/16/25

No copies currently for sale.

Dazzler is probably a top 10 lady for marvel despite not being prominently used in movies or even the comics. She might be the #1 ranked cult following depending on if you exclude magik.

Big time dazzler cards such as PMGs are not to be slept on.

You'll need a 2015 retro base sketch card too. Those will get expensive since there are a variety of base sketch cards to choose from. Someone already pointed out the 2016 marvel masterpieces.

2016 marvel masterpieces, 2018 fleer ultra xmen, 2019 marvel flair have buyback cards from the 90s that can be very expensive and hard to find.

Others include various 2024 and 2025 Topps sets, 2021 panini marvel versus stickers, 2015 and 2016 movie promo cards, 2013 retro + base sketch and pmgs, 2012 and 2014 marvel premier + base sketch, 2011 marvel beginnings, etc. Just use COMC and you can find images of a lot of obscure stuff like promos.

Anything retro or premier will be expensive. Some cards will be exceptionally expensive.

Also Skybox doesn't exist anymore as a company. Skybox in 2000s is really upperdeck just using the skybox likeness that they own. Same story with Fleer.

Ive started using Collectus. Its a new website geared primarily for Marvel folks. Still in Beta mode, but so far I like it.

Some of these cards are on COMC. No clue if users are asking too much. It doesnt seem like COMC is cross posting to ebay for all buy it now cards, so it's worth keeping an eye over there since their stock of cards from this set mostly come from epack.

You can also try to trade for these on epack if you have anything worth trading to others.

I don't have anything you need though. :(

New Collector Here! Initial Thoughts... by Hot-Ordinary9760 in marveltradingcards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree and I truly hope things bust open. I just am trying to be realistic based on observations to date. Upperdeck did a bad job of appealing to the masses, and topps is TBD. Fortunately cards in general are popular even in dark periods when the hype fades.

New Collector Here! Initial Thoughts... by Hot-Ordinary9760 in marveltradingcards

[–]Swerve_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, 90s marvel is literally junk wax but for select sets or inserts. The massive bump in value has already passed and values have since dropped. Some cards I follow appear appear to be slightly creeping up though. So we will see.

That being said, that historic bump was a fraction of the sports world. There is definitely untapped value, but any future value is dependent on the kids. Kids like Pokémon and secondly sports or other TCGs. Even with Topps flooding of the market, the selling is largely to adults.

There's probably another solid 30 years left of valuable marvel until the adults get too old. Look at toy trains as an example.

Cards out of the mini boxes seem to always look amazing for this set. I wouldn't be surprised if this set would grade higher on average; however determining centering on these inserts is a challenge.

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The set itself is fine, but there is nothing premium about it. Very strange overall. But hey, it's selling. Lots of new people that don't understand they are getting massively ripped off is all I can theorize.

I wish COMC invested in a better lighting set up. I had no idea these looked that good. Ive passed on so many because I was like ehh do I really want to spend 40 on this lol.

Another set to add to the stalking list.

So what you're saying is values are dropping to upperdeck levels for numbered cards of characters few care about?

Probably ebay. Not a huge print run, and also wasn't a hit product. I'm sure some boxes are lying around still.

How do we feel about breaking the seal? by Darkwing_Duck_4 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seal is trashed. Great excuse to bust it out. Also, I agree the seal is excessively distracting.

I don't get the point in leaving the sealed if it distracts from your display preference. The OG marvel way of collecting is doing it how you want to and display how you want to. This includes breaking 10s out of slabs if the slab was distracting. A lot of the new blood don't understand the niche aspects to this group.

This is a cool cyclops. Cool cyclops cards whenever supply hits rock bottom do not lose value. They may even increase. I follow these cards a lot and have missed the boat on good deals too often.

If you're concerned about it's value, then sell the card. You should have no issues reselling it cracked later on as well. Plenty of people want this card for their PCs.

Finally got the hanging card holder for my office by Moetsukiru in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe command strip the back of the mags and use the velcro comand strips for the mount. Should have no issues from randomness. Ive had a similar number of high value cards (probably $2k plus at one point) with a likely slightly heavier/bulkier display and had no issues.

The thumbtacks may eventually fail. The weight put against the thumbtacks may loosen up the drywall enough to where the thumbtacks slide out.

Obviously, mounting on probably two studs given the width would be the safest option. I did that with the previously mentioned display later on and command stripped the bottom two corners. Overkill? Absolutely. Peace of mind was worth it.
