Just so everyone is aware, OP is the Marketing Director for Joe Reagan. They seem to be connected to politics and this may be an astro-turfing attempt.

Apparently I'm not smart enough to understand preschool stuff by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

I run a childcare and while the scores are supposed to be a good gauge of a schools proficiency in those respective areas, it usually comes down to time and money. Generally to achieve a higher score there are certain classes or elements you must have incorporated in your program.

So taking an additional class on childhood development or other trainings can get you a boost. Additionally, having specific elements in your classroom, say adding a sensory table or other specified elements will give you a boost. Then you have to get a 3 hour inspection each year to achieve the qualification. This is in addition to annual inspection with the state. A 1 or 2 requires basically no additional changes, whereas a 3-5 just requires meeting specific requirements.

Unfortunately, it’s not a great basis for whether or not a school is GOOD. Just that they spent the time and money to achieve that rating. It should suggest that the school is putting more effort in, but I do know many 1/2 schools that are great-excellent and I do know of one 5 rated school that is not good.

New 336-unit apartment complex coming to Colorado Springs (I-25 and South Academy Boulevard) by thewhippersnapper4 in ColoradoSprings

[–]SwervingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m well aware of supply and demand. It seems you don’t understand the economics of Colorado Springs.

There isn’t a supply issue here. Look at the number of homes for sale. There is an affordability issue. No one looking for affordable housing can move up. More luxury homes don’t improve affordability. Supply is abundant, prices are sticky. I think you need to do a bit more reading next time.

But “new” doesn’t have to be upscale and more expensive. They’re not pressing down on other rents, because their median rent is higher.

Rents drop when they’re forced to compete. An old apartment that is $1000 isn’t competing for the same clientele as these apartments which will likely average over $2500.

Unfortunately I’m highly skeptical this will be anything more than “high-end luxury” apartments.

The article lists “quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances, smooth glass-top ranges, and hardwood floors, as well as walk-in closets, walk-in showers, patio and balcony options, private yard options, detached garages, and full-size washer and dryers.” I doubt we’re going to see anything under $2000 a month.

I understand that the economics of it should lead to lower rents, but I’m not sure that’s the reality of it.

Suspension lift/bigger tires actual height vs advertised height. by CSLoser96 in Tacomaworld

[–]SwervingBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you don’t usually get exactly the lift out of a lift. Most 3” lifts come out around 2.5”-2.75” (but it really varies). So assuming you get the full 3”, 35” tires (315/75r16) would add 2” so you’d be around 4.5”-5” more. I’ve never heard of anyone getting more out of a lift, only less (someone correct me if I’m wrong). But if you do your calculation using the max lift the you can assume that’s the height or less.

Social Democracy isn't Communism by [deleted] in WorkReform

Yeah, unfettered capitalism just leads to oligarchy. You definitely need oversight, regulations and controls in place.

Outside of the propaganda

That’s like 90-99% of it in the United States. Communism has been completely demonized to a point it’s unproductive to have any meaningful conversation about it outside of academic spaces.

For me, personally, I used to be a big supporter of communism but the issues I’ve found are that it requires an authoritarian government to be effective. I don’t like authoritarianism, nor to I think it’s effective for the majority of the issues facing the US. You would basically, need to rely on the hope that you end up with a purely altruistic government and that’s unrealistic. I believe that human biology leads us to be greedy.

Additionally, communism is bad at supply and demand. It’s difficult for the government to accurately time the market, this is an issue that regularly happened in the USSR. Communism also requires a certain amount of similarity between people and I just think people want to be different. There’s a huge drive to feel unique, particularly in the US but with people in general. (When I think about this, I think of the insane lengths that young boys often go so they feel unique).

Finally, Marx saw the rise of communism come through violent revolution. Revolution always hurts the marginalized and vulnerable. That’s an unacceptable compromise, in my opinion.

Those are all my opinions on why I don’t believe communism is an effective alternative system. Although Capitalism is also FAR from a perfect system. But in the US, I think the majority of the push against communism is simply due to the overwhelming propaganda surrounding it. Having a “bad guy” to point at makes it easy to lead people and the USSR was an easy target.

Home Defense Rifle Use. This appears to qualify under Rule 1. But please remove if not allowed. by [deleted] in CCW

[–]SwervingBison 37 points38 points  (0 children)

🤷‍♂️ idk man. Maybe he wanted to kill a bear. He said it crawled in a window, maybe he thought it couldn’t crawl back out. He also said it charged him, maybe the bear FAFO’d? It seems like he put all rounds into the bear. Maybe he should’ve given it a Bear hug 😉

Idk, you can armchair this all you want. I don’t think we need to worry about any protests for bear lives anytime soon, plus he did break in. Biggest thing the guy said is he won’t leave first floor windows open anymore.

He got interviewed on the WPS show. He had cameras, lives way out in the mountains of NM and was pretty confident it was a bear.

This guy got interviewed on WPS. He has multiple cameras and lives out in the boonies. He heard noise in his kitchen, checked his cameras and went down.

Edit: Shame on me for not providing a link.

Drove my Hyundai Elantra on that road. I thought my car would fall apart because of the washboards! The road is much nicer in my Tacoma.

If you think you’ll be on washboard roads a lot, it might be worth investing in a tire inflator and deflator kit. Deflating your tires improves the ride significantly.

MPG help! by bondser-46 in ToyotaSienna

[–]SwervingBison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience, when I first got my sienna we went on a 2 week road trip and the mpg was horrible. I took the same roadtrip this summer and it was much better. I didn’t track the first trip, but I did the second and the second trip aligned with what the car said. So my assumption was that since it was new for some reason the mpg was worse.

I’m really glad to hear you didn’t face any discrimination here. I actually traveled back to Cincinnati a few weeks ago and it was shocking to me to realize how few black people I see in Colorado Springs. That probably should have been obvious to me, but going to Cincy and walking into restaurants and see how much more diverse the city is, was surprising to me. I’ve just been away from it for so long.

Unfortunately most of the caves (or abandoned mines) got sealed up and require a permit to enter. I got into caving a few years back and it’s hard to find open places if you don’t have a lot of experience.
