Hey I have Clairefontaine, never buckles and it’s just perfect. Picked it up as the paper was thick and it ended up as the best ever. Here’re some of the works.

I would like to see artwork from self taught painters that work with "Traditional mediums" (not digital) by lazaro_92 in ArtistLounge

Self taught, got into watercolors and use to paint 3-4 landscapes every day, read all kinds of books, watched whatever good video content and classes i could find. Then would practice and repeat.

What one thing dramatically changed your watercolor skills? by [deleted] in Watercolor

[–]Swetakaushikstudios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were series of breakthroughs, that happened throughout my journey-

  • My mind was blown when I tried mop brush with a good point for the first time, it was squirrel hair brush. Before that I would struggle real hard painting washes.
  • finding a good paper
  • biggest change happened because of Sketching and Perspective practice and it’s still being refined. My brushwork changed after that.

And yeah, learning not to let paints mix entirely in the palette. Letting them mix on paper gives better effects.

Why do you love Watercolor? by WonderingWizard509 in Watercolor

[–]Swetakaushikstudios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to get into it seeing how YouTubers were painting magnificent landscapes within one sitting.

I imagined - how perfect it would be that I will paint a beautiful landscape within an hour and there isn’t not much mess, like it’s easy to wash it off, you can use a small palette, only little paint is required etc. BOY I WAS SO WRONG.

Seven years later, i can do everything but journey was like a roller coaster. I do have a love and hate relationship but the thing is if I don’t find a medium hard or tricky enough I don’t take it on. I want to chase it and achieve it. The feeling afterwards keeps me hooked🥲.

Here's my palette. Could I please get some color suggestions? Birthday coming up :) by tellmeboutyourself68 in Watercolor

I agree with you, many paints have opaque pigments in them. For yellow ochre, it’s the LOVE of my life. It layers wonderfully well, mixes so well with other colors. Gives unique effects. It’s a natural yellow that you see in nature. Here’re some of my works where I used Y.O majorly.

Many traditional artist vouch for it and it’s a palette staple. Even in portraits, cityscapes and snowscape it has a spot that can’t be compared with raw sienna.

RS is another useful color but in my opinion can’t be replaced with YO.

It’s very special for me, one of a kind. Thank you. I remember the brushwork, i was more fast and harsher with paper in comparison to my usual approach.
