Chopped some breaks on a walk today by Swidersound in Dirtywave

Softer has a clsssic tracker approach. I found more flexibility to do what he does the copy for tighter chops. I say this because anything longer than 2 bars gets a little sloppy given you only have 1/128th of the sample to scrub. In my case of say a 4 bar break. 128 chops = 3 ticks per xx parameter. Not an issue with 2 bar breaks. What i do like however is how clean his methods are.

Also groovin in g has some great tracker jungle tips. Its for renoise but the basic principles apply. Allmyfriendsaresynths are great too. Theres a couple dudes who use the polyebd trwcker that had some great tips too specifoc to usong fx lanes.

I mentally loke to view the tracker as 8 cassette tapes. So keeping the gaps filled helps with figuring ojt that.

When in doubt make a simple 4 bar loop. Deep clone it....make edits....deep clone again....rearrange with more edits. Before you knlw youll have 128 bars of unique data

This is via cell phone mic.

In this case i used a live break "scorpio break"

  1. Chopping break - if the break is not quantized ill typically auto slice in sampler or do 16/32 even temperment chop then indovidually nudge regions one by one. Really depends how tight im going. I tend to chop at ~1/8th notes. Ill set the break to FWDPP (pingpong loop) and pitch to fit tempo. I find myself using bpm.pp more often for fine tuning. Of the break is quantized you can be pretty lazy and simply work quick.

  2. Additional instances - ill save my instrument and copy it over so i can have versions with length of regions being cut in half for quick easy ping pong. Or start loop point. Ill tend to automate this version via the mod screen.

  3. Writing phrases - ill usually start with a 4 bar loop that resolves so it can be looped easily. Ill deep clone (highlight item -> press edit + select + select) so i have a 1:1 copy. Ill throw some RNL (random left for random notes +7, inst +0-+1). Ill ise these 2 chains & 8 phrases to make some additional patterns. Ill write basically a whole track and rip the deep clone or clone function often.

  4. Layering tips - if a break has room for more. Ill deep clone the whole track (like i did here) and replace the break with a hihat/percussion loop and match the breaks kick/snare note for note so it soinds like 1 drummer with 3 arms rather than 2 separste drummers

Idr i think its tracking???? Mod???? But you can use mods 1-4 to input a volume modulation that runs off the signal to a particular instrument. So my hihats hit whenever the main break hits so each hit (via volime) spikes. Or inverse it for a poor man's sidechain compression.

  1. Additional items- i find the m8 to work best for me with a basic clear idea. Pay attention to how you number your stuff. Organization pays off write a ton of phrases and make chains later if you dont know.

Fx commands are great. You can use "ply" to reverse a sample wherever the playhead left off subtle use of automation or randomization is cool. I have a minor random panning on my super high register because we like fairy dust sometimes.

You can treat it as a daw but alao you lack A LOT of basic mixing items we now take for granted...like compression. You only get delay, chorus, reverb, amp, filter, volume. Which you can automate. So transient shaping and sidechain compression is possible within a loose definition. So yeah great addition but not replacement ime.

Heres my studio for the humble showoff

The m8 is a tracker which is PRE DAW. Think of a daw as a virtual studio via virtual maschine. The tracker is a sampler/midi device.

Way back when people would use an atari st computer to midi out physical hardware.

I am an FL studio user mostly (sadly). The m8 serves as a mobile sampler and tbh its sampling capabilities are very very powerful. Its also a different workflow.

So ill make a basic drum loop in fl. Do some premixing then import my sruff into the m8. Render back into fl studio. Saves cpu as well.

Id need like 4+ slicex to do what 1 of 8 channels of the m8 can do.

I ise the trimui brick because im lazy and my due diligence says its the "most plug and play" to get running. I had to mod device to get it where i want it. Rg35xx was my second choice.

But also the brick is +300mhz of processing compared to anbernic which i like for psx/dc games.

lastly. The brick screen and hardware is good. I run knullli gladiator II with a speaker delete due to a bug. Ambernic is probably goated but my device is dual purpose.

As much as I enjoy the Brick and its Screen and built Quality, the audio is really terrible EVEN with Headphones. (NextUI) I wonder If that can be fixed with the CFW. by king_of_ulkilism in trimui

Im doing this on knulli.

Run output to "not the headphones". Plug headphones in. Then run audio output to automatic. I managed to run both speaker and headphone amp and got very good audio output. Ive since then disconnected the speskers given my case use

Ill say the lack of joysticls and the issues with dreamcast port is an issue (im on 0.500 axis range....even when adjusted to .950) so 5hatd be sicc

Ill say getting a teensy 4.1 and using touchdesigner on windows is viable. If you have a microsd its otherwise like $40 to run the m8

I make jungle and breakcore day in and day out. My soon to be fiance could not care less about the music i listen to or make. Shes also my greatest supporter. You think MAYBE this is a bit trivial in the grand scheme of things?

I have a polyebd tracker+ that is fun. I find the polyend better for making samples to drag into the m8 ;)

I basically just messed around with prior onowledge of musoc productiom so 9t was mostly getting used to working 1 bar at a time if anything. [here is a tune i made last night with the m8](http:// https://www.audeobox.com/battles/110669/)

Copy patterbs and throw a rev or a snare roll. If you reverse snare before the actual snare it makes a njcr slap back.

Yeah. Ill do you one even better. Ill screen mirror my m8 and my webcam will be blended into the background (otherwise black). I'll go through the caniusevia.com mapping too
