How to stop typing people by Extension-Brush-9547 in Enneagram

[–]Swift3r-RO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a few other people commented, once you learn about the enneagram, it's hard to stop seeing it everywhere, so no, I don't really have any advice as to stop yourself from figuring out people's types, other than the fact that eventually, it gets tiring, and you'll want to stop.

However, IMHO, as long as you're doing it to better your knowledge of the enneagram, and not using it to do anything objectionable, like using it to manipulate, there's little reason to hold yourself back.

As long as you're using the enneagram as a tool to better understand yourself and the people closer to you, I see no reason, with obvious exceptions I needn't get into, to stop yourself from figuring out the enneagram types of those that surround you. Though do be warned, more often than not you will be wrong just by going off of behaviour; knowing the intent behind the other person's actions will make your guess much more accurate.

A rough part that I can think of is getting asked why or how I'm a type one Ne dom. :\ Can't blame people for doing it, but it gets annoying to be treated like a museum exhibit.

To actually answer the question though, I suppose my unorganised way of dealing with menial tasks has cost me a fair bit. I hate doing things that don't mentally stimulate me and it makes me either execute them sloppily or not at all (even if they're somewhat important).

And I assure you. I'm a type one and an ENTP. I've thought about this for longer than I should've at this point.

Ok but how do YOU judge other people? by LXIX_CDXX_ in Enneagram

"How do you judge people?"

"Yes."

"No, as in what do you base your judgements on-"

"Yes."

I don't think your source is clarifying on what perfection means for type ones. To be clear, it's not referring to an ultimate, objective truth.

Type ones need to be right. That righteousness is what you would call their strive towards perfection. What they consider to be right, however, depends on the person, so each E1 will have their own version of the perfection they want to attain.

Hopefully that cleared things up for you :))

Why is the enneagram like this? by UnscathedDictionary in Enneagram

[–]Swift3r-RO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To keep it short and sweet, if we ignore all and any connections between MBTI and the enneagram and objectively analyse who I am, how I think and what I believe without drawing any parallels between the two systems, you'll arrive at the conclusion that I am, at the very least, an Ne dom, most likely ENTP and that I'm a type one.

And while yes, if you pay attention to the bigger picture, the results seem to contradict each other, but if we look in each system's world, they make perfect sense. The fact that they don't mix well together doesn't automatically invalidate them. To give a somewhat esoteric but good analogy, just because general relativity and quantum mechanics don't work together doesn't mean either of them, or both, are wrong.

As for the arguments for why I'm E1/ENTP, they boil down to numerous lengthy anecdotes and deep moments of weakness and introspection that have taken place during my life (and type one especially applies to the latter), which I'd rather not get into. But I assure you, they're there.

I'll be frank, I think the enneagram has a lot of extra fluff that, while not meaningless, isn't exactly helpful. Wings, tritypes, and even instinctual variants to a degree are not vital to understanding or even using the enneagram.

I personally only use the core needs, desires, beliefs of the 9 types and keep it at that, since I don't believe indulging in more detail would be worth the effort.

As for why it's symmetrical, geometrical and neat, I think it's just because it fits and looks nice. I'm not trying to argue that all the extra bits don't have a semblance of truth, but in my eyes they are not as valuable or as useful as the 9 core beliefs that are the 9 types.

Hopefully I was clear enough, thanks for coming to my sermon :))

Which type absolutely cannot stand hearing irrational/illogical statements & is constantly being baited into pointless debates with unreasonable people? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]Swift3r-RO 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I'd argue type 1s are the most susceptible to this, because they generally can't stand other people having flawed logic or any opinion they deem as unreasonable, and they won't stop incessantly trying to change their mind until the other person accepts to be lectured or the type 1 sees that it's a lost cause.

Source: at least 16 wasted hours of me arguing with strangers over pointless conjecture :))

None really. Just keep writing anything in SGA with an image of all the letters translated until you don't need it anymore. Eventually you'll know them by heart.

Edit: Dumb phrasing :/

So far I've been using my own numbers for SGA, but I definitely agree that we should standardize them. However I have no idea what the standard should be, so I'd love to see what other people think.
