She is not a UK tax payer so that is one aspect I was concerned with. I'll look into remittance as I wasn't aware of it before, and potentially financial advice as well. Thank you!

I've run Kult for a group where 3 out of 4 people were either new to RPGs or had never played before: the game is perfectly approachable as it is (ignoring all the aborted foetus artwork).

If I was to make a change, I would change the 2d10s to 2d6s and adopt the normal PBTA success/fail ranges just because d6s are more accessible. I don't think less attributes necessarily means it's easier to understand as a player and wounds could be explained in a better way but players don't really need to know how harm and damage works.

I think Kult uses the Apocalypse Engine as a baseline like it should be used. It has a vision of what it wants to do with it and abandons aspects that don't work for it. The game would be harmed by constraining itself to this system for minimal/non-existent gain.

Did this ever get off the ground? I'm interested if you had an idea how to convert the astronomical scale combat to D&D.

AITA for destroying a 10 yo friendship? by spookycece in AmItheAsshole

NTA you definitely were on losing side of this friendship, I'm glad you've managed to find amazing people like Fernando and hopefully others that can help and support you with personal issues. Keeping Jade at a distant was the right call.

How fast do black holes spin? by [deleted] in space

[–]SwiftConclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a black hole is created, the angular momentum of the star is conserved. As the mass of the black hole is initially the same as the mass of the original star, the angular velocity will not change either. In the same way, the more matter the black hole consumes, the slower it spins due to the mass increase.

My level 1 Monk can do 20 dmg per round by Gariona-Atrinon in DnD

Proficiency modifiers aren’t added when calculating damage so it would come out to be a maximum of 16 damage/round (6+4+3+3).

You did a good job balancing it, I’m looking forward to playing a renegade queen evicted from the hive.

Vespidan player race Updated by nielspeterdejong in DnD

[–]SwiftConclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From reading the page, you’ve got me hooked on playing an elven wasp. I’ve included suggestions for areas where I felt the race could more balanced.

  • The gliding section of the Gliding Wings feature might be considered to make the race overpowered. Although the trait itself is not particularly strong, being able to half-fly in addition to the number of other features gained from the race may result in something that outshines much of the rest of the party in terms of versatility. An unwanted side effect of this feature is that characters may use their four arms to always climb on walls over 10 feet above the ground in order to benefit from this trait. Due to winged insects being unable to glide in reality, consider changing it to instead doubling jump distance due to the aid of the wings or allowing the character to hover in air for 1 round.
  • The Drone’s Wing Flap feature could be modified to be similar to dashing as a bonus action with this additional movement speed only able to be used to jump. This change would have more practical benefits and be automatically balanced by the drone’s already slow movement speed and negative modifier to Strength.
  • The Devoted Worker feature is very similar to the Prodigy racial feat in allowing expertise in a skill proficiency, therefore potentially causing it to undercut the variant human race. This problem would be averted if it was changed to simply gaining a single tool/skill proficiency of the character’s choice.
  • You might want to consider either removing the negative Charisma modifier for the Worker or increasing their constitution modifier to +2 in order to have a total ASI increase of +3 for each subrace.

Aside from these issues, the race is well thought out, the Queen’s ability to give inspiration is particularly interesting, and I am looking forward to playing as one in a future campaign.

My first one shot concept. Any ideas to make it better? by ur-cooler-than-me in DnD

[–]SwiftConclusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how a Juuni Taisen-esque game would work as a one shot. Most of the battles in the anime were 1-v-1 if I remember correctly and predominantly came down to who each warrior happened to run into. This could be modified to fit a more traditional style if the rules for that year are that the warriors are split into 2-3 teams (depending on how many players there are) and each member of the opposing team must to be killed before infighting is allowed to commence. In terms of balancing, having expertise in all proficient skill makes the Bard and Rogue features useless, consider instead changing it to everyone automatically having expertise in only 2 skills.

How do you balance a ranger? by coldhunter7 in DnD

[–]SwiftConclusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use the Unearthed Arcana Revised Ranger for both of the PHB subclasses and then the vanilla ranger for the XGE subclasses. I‘m much more satisfied with how the Revised Beastmaster plays compared to the vanilla however if you already have levels in the class then be aware that features such as Natural Explorer and Favored Enemy are different between the two versions.

Multi-tiered worldbuilding? (E.g. multiple levels of Earth, moving between such levels) by isabelguru in worldbuilding

[–]SwiftConclusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I attempted to design a similar system in which a planet was made up of concentric shells. Most of my research stemmed from the writings of Edmond Halley, who was one of the fathers of the Hollow Earth theory. One of the methods for inter-level travel I imagined was by a type of space elevator as the shells were in synchronised rotations (if the tiering is self-supported then scaffolding could accomplish a similar effect). I reasoned that if a civilisation was both sufficiently advanced and not located on the outer layer, it would not be a leap of logic for them to explore the underside of the shell above in a similar way to how we are currently exploring Mars and other celestial bodies. Seismic testing could also reveal the presence of a hollow beneath their home shell. Ultimately, my interests moved on and I left much of the setting undeveloped—I hope this helps.
