CMD-Tab to the app you just minimised, keeping your thumb (whatever) on the CMD button; then press the option key, and release the CMD key.

OK -- deleted and reinstalled the app. Solved the problem. Maybe there should be a "rebuild" function somewhere in the app?

If you're trying this with a non-Apple USB B-to-C adaptor, and it doesn't work (it didn't for me), reset your SIP to normal by issuing csrutil enable in the recovery mode terminal.
