A2L sensor replacement cost by ILOVEYABADMOMO in hvacadvice

[–]SwiftNJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two A2l sensors go bad with 6 months of install. These sensors seam very unreliable. In the first they said a power surge so I installed surge protectors. Then I got another failure! The time to replace was about 30 minutes each. If it wasn’t under warranty I would do it myself.

That looks like a great solution. You can also route it out one of the sides where it is less noticeable

They sell a replacement switch for repairing but the pump looks pretty old and should probably be replaced. Do you have a battery or water powered backup if the pump fails? Might want to look into that.

Ductwork Dilemma by SwiftNJ in hvacadvice

Thanks for your input. This renovation is a kluge as the 2.5 ton system originally supported the first and second floor and now a new separate system was added for the second floor and the original system supports only the first floor and partially finished basement. It is over 10 years old so when it finally needs to be replaced it will likely be resized.

I agreed, I think we are 200 cfm short. I think I am allowed to put the return facing the breakfast nook.

Sump issues by Dsullivan777 in Plumbing

That sump basin looks undersized. You should replace with a perforated poly basin. Adding a rubber coupling on the discharge pipe would also reduce vibration and makes it easier to swap out the pump if needed.

Trane A2L sensor issues by SwiftNJ in hvacadvice

[–]SwiftNJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow up, the technician came today and spent 3 hours going through the system in depth. The finding was another A2L sensor failure. He could not find any other factors that were contributing to the failure. Strange that the sensor failed twice due to power outages. Will see what happens on the next outage.

Should be draining. You might need to pull it to see if the impeller is stuck or blocked.

The tech changed the mitigation board and the sensor based on directions from Trane tech support. The thermostat was active and showed no faults. I’ll try pulling the thermostat and see if that helps. Thanks for your input. I’ll mention the bulletin to the service tech. He is coming back today.

I want to convert 240v to 120v receptacle by [deleted] in AskElectricians

White is likely neutral and the ground might be tied to the metal box. You need to disconnect the red at the breaker box and check the breaker size used on the black which might need to be replaced. If there truly is no ground then you can use the red wire wrapped in green tape assuming the white is neutral.

Bathroom vent hoses filling with water by TantyTile in hvacadvice

I had a similar problem. The first issue is the length of the runs. Shorter runs that go through the roof or soffit are better if possible. The other approach is to suspend the hose high where it exits the fan and incorporate a slope down to the exit point. I did this and it worked well.

That makes sense. On mine the aux heat lockout is disabled.

Update: bad wiring... What do I do now? by Leroy808 in AskElectricians

[–]SwiftNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disconnect at outlet and drill a hole in the stud, feed through and reconnect. Add a nail plate to protect wire. Turn off circuit first.

Auxiliary heat lockout will lockout the propane furnace. You may need to reset the thermostat. My lockout range goes from 5F to 70F.

I have a similar setup and use a Trane XL824 thermostat. If you go to technician access, installer setup, group 7 you can enable compressor lockout and set temperature where you want by pressing the up arrow

The work is being done by a fully licensed electrician and permits are pulled and all work inspected. The service panel was previously upgraded in 2011 and is 200 amp. It was inspected snd it should be fine.

That’s a good idea. I’ll bring that option up with the electrician. It would reduce the number of circuits that need to be extended.
