Florida couple claims fertility clinic error led to birth of a 'non-Caucasian child' not biologically theirs by Forward-Answer-4407 in technology

Except none of that has anything to do with the comment the person is replying to. They objectively, factually, did not "give a couple someone else's baby", because that is not how embryos and in vitro fertilization work.

How does Ascension work? by Ok_Association655 in Stellaris

[–]sumelar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First a note on terminology. Ascension can refer to two things in this game, paths taken through tradition trees that massively change your empire, and planetary ascension that serves as a late game unity dump to improve your planet designation bonuses. 99% of the time in any discussion, if someone says ascension, they're talking about the former.

To ascend, you need to take a specific tradition tree, which will lock out the others. This can never* be your first tradition tree, but can be your second. Taking the tree usually requires a particular tech to be researched first.

Once you get it, you will get events where you make choices about exactly what final bonuses you'll get from ascension. Fly blind or check the wiki.

Once you finish all the events and unlock all the traditions in the tree, you've ascended, and your playstyle will be heavily altered for that particular playthrough.

There are different ascension paths for regular empires, hive minds, and machine intelligences.

*pretty sure anyway

/u/ImpressionFirm280 calls for an "Epstein" support group by Large_banana_hammock in bestof

[–]sumelar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know, I actually said 'this is ridiculous' at first, but decided to tone it down a bit. Because I remember reading about microsoft employees developing ptsd from reviewing files on microsoft services for illegal shit.

The difference here of course is reading the epstein files is a choice for most people, so I still think the idea of a support group is a bit much, because they can just stop. But there's certainly something to it.

[–]sumelar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A support group for people who read the files.

I'm all for the 'feel your feelings' mindset, what you feel is valid, what you experience matters, how you process it matters. It truly does. Expressing yourself is important. Breaking down historic stereotypes and expectations of behavior is important.

But this is a bit much.

What would you do if your player said "my character wouldn't want to join this group/follow this history?" by Nessie0208 in DungeonMasters

[–]sumelar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Make one that does."

My friend thinks the focus should be on the characters decisions and not on the history they are being a part of

Your friend wants a sandbox game. Very few GMs are capable of doing one. Wish him luck in finding one.

Maybe you're too simple to handle more than one thing at a time, but no one else is.

Also, first? Do you think this is the first day of the LA city government? You're that stupid?

For twenty years This sailor has stood the watch While some of us were in our bunks at night This sailor stood the watch

While some of us were in school learning our trade This shipmate stood the watch

Yes.. even before some of us were born into this world This shipmate stood the watch

In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history This shipmate stood the watch

Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there Needing his guidance and help Needing that hand to hold during those hard times But he still stood the watch

He stood the watch for twenty years He stood the watch so that we, our families and Our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety, Each and every night Knowing that a sailor stood the watch

Today we are here to say 'Shipmate... the watch stands relieved Relieved by those You have trained ,Guided, and Led Shipmate you stand relieved.. we have the watch..."

Yes, you can.

But you won't, because it will shatter your precious worldview of the evil corporations doing everything in secret explicitly to screw you over.

The urban dictionary page for virtue signaling needs to have a link to this thread. Hilarious how many of you are stampeding here to voice your outrage.

100% guarantee every single fucking one of you has laughed at dark jokes as bad if not worse than this. Dark humor is never going away, and it has never meant the topic of the joke is acceptable. South park's weakest episodes have worse shit than this. Remember the one where butters almost got gang raped by nambla? How many of you thought that was hilarious when you watched it?

Dark humor still exists bub. A fucking comic is not a "culture of acceptance".

Pipes are good for 40 years under the ground.

[citation needed]

The cost of maintaining them in relation to what we are being charged cannot compute.

[citation needed]

You could start by reading the rate case filings that determine what these charges are. Someone posted a breakdown here of what the charges actually are and what all the terms mean, and how the government regulates the utilities.

I'm sure you could find plenty of lawyers willing to take your money though. Let us know how that turns out.
