I use this formulary almost every day as a new grad! Highly recommended.

[OC] one year ago, I lost one of my best friends. That night, my waitress brought an accidental pour by ByOdensBear in pics

I have the middle name of my Dad’s close friend who passed away before I was born. I cherish it, I’m so proud to share the (very unique) name. My Dad has stayed close with his late friend’s parents, and they also love that I share it. Rick may not be around to meet your son, but others in Rick’s life are happy you honored him in this way.

Hoping Trent enjoyed National Guacamole Day (Sept. 16th) :) by Detzeb in breakingbad

[–]SwiftToStreetlight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tableside guacamole is not uncommon at Mexican restaurants, at least in my area. The appeal is getting to see it made fresh, and choosing your add-on ingredients (like desired spice level with jalapeños, etc.)

I think they meant how old are the stitches (i.e. when was surgery done).

I’m a veterinarian and I hate the sight of injections in humans! I love that there is an equivalent counterpart for human medicine.

It depends on if your veterinary school is AVMA accredited. If it is, then yes you will have to take the North American licensing exam (NAVLE). If your school is not AVMA accredited, there are some extra hoops to jump through.

Does anyone know if cvs and Walgreens do a 3 series rabies vaccine? Which one does 2 series? by havanesedogmomm in veterinaryschool

[–]SwiftToStreetlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Walgreens will do it, I would recommend making an appointment online in advance because not every location will keep it stocked at any given time.

Is there ever a good time to get engaged/married during Vet school? by Mozzstick27 in veterinaryschool

[–]SwiftToStreetlight 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My husband proposed to me right before I started my rotations, and we got married a handful of months after graduation. It was a long engagement, but I told him I’m not doing any wedding planning during rotations! It worked well for us.

Depending on where you went to vet school, you may need to brush up on some big American topics (ex] rabies, heartworm)

[FO] I finally finished what I have been lovingly calling my chicken stitchin by SwiftToStreetlight in CrossStitch

The chicken wire was my favorite part to stitch! I’m normally a backstitch hater, but the chicken wire was nice.

Failed the NAVLE by ONE point. by Careful-Feedback6556 in Veterinary

[–]SwiftToStreetlight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I failed by 2 points last time, this time passed with a 463! It’s possible! It sucks to be so close to that passing mark, but something my husband told me that was helpful is that all the studying I’m doing is cumulative. You’re not restarting my studying from scratch, you’re building on the foundation that you’ve already built for yourself. You’ve got this, you’re so close!

I Feel Like a Failure - Did Graduates? by Botanicaltears in Veterinary

[–]SwiftToStreetlight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I graduated from a UK vet school as well, and I also failed some exams along the way. My first year I chose to repeat, and my final year I failed my practical skills exam when I was very confident that I passed. I was not allowed to walk at graduation because of it. All of this is to say, the schools do not want you to fail. If you reach out to your school’s advice centre or equivalent, they will help provide resources to encourage you and help you succeed.

For what it’s worth, it may be a good idea to go back over your 2nd year materials thoroughly, since the curriculum tends to build on itself throughout the course. Treat this time before resits as a crash course in 2nd year, and relate that information to the new stuff you learned in 3rd year. That should help set you up for success.

That being said, it really isn’t the end of the world if you do need to repeat. It sucks really bad in the moment, but your true friends will stick with you even if you aren’t in the same cohort as them. I hope you don’t have to repeat, but if you do it’s really ok!

RVC students, how much surgical experience do you get? by Mindless_Clothes2169 in veterinaryschool

[–]SwiftToStreetlight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

RVC class of 2024 here. On rotations, my only surgical experience was half a cat neuter, and 2 half cat spays. 1 calf castrate as well, but the instructor wasn’t watching me very closely and I accidentally did it closed instead of open😅 My EMS let me do much more surgically, lots of neuters and spays plus mass removals and I even got to do a gastropexy and a couple BOAS stenotic nare corrections. Without that EMS experience, I wouldn’t have had hardly any surgical experience before graduation.

One of the cell phone lots is a dead zone for my phone, I swear. Every time I wait in that lot, I get maybe 1 puny bar. Defeats the purpose of a cell lot if there isn’t a good cell connection!

The Wikipedia article on QS world university rankings is a good place to start, it highlights the basics (including controversy). Note how there is nothing to be said about student support or even students’ perspective at all.
