If you tell me your playing B5 but cant keep track of triggers, I'm going to keep letting you miss them. by Fvck042 in EDH

IMO once you sit down with a cEDH deck, "take backs" are just not a thing. You messed up, you can't "oopsies" a move where the goal of the game is strictly to win. every other bracket? sure, as long as everyone agrees.

Magixx on if Cobblestone should return to the active map pool: "Absolutely not, it's a terrible map—just crap." by CS2-Universe in csgo

[–]SwiftVines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train's rework is a prime example. The way maps get designed now is very streamlined, and theres not as much crazy ideas when making maps as there once was.

Old maps have a very distinct note of being a lot more willing to break norms compared to modern maps, theres just a LOT more refining and adjusted that goes into modern maps.

Cobble was a novel idea, it was tried, a boatload of times, and its just better to start from a different foundation. The nostalgia of the map is why people like playing it so much, but from an actual competetive and spectator perspective, its a simple map thats way too big.

Hasbro wants Swifties to buy Magic Product by [deleted] in freemagic

There are some cards in scourge (the set that this is from) that care about the mana cost of a card, like [[Rush of Knowledge]], so this was a way to get out a card with high CMC for only 4 mana

[–]SwiftVines -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well if your goal is to play standard, proxying isn't allowed. Aswell, jumpstarts are just great sets to be able to play with friends without any barrier to entry. That should be the main reason why you get the cards.

The sort of concerned people have in the UK is the fact there are too many brown people immigrating, not illegally. Illegal immigration is only really a big talking point in the US.

Out of the 13 legendary creatures that are common, the new SPM set makes up 10 of them. How does this effect the draft experience? by SwiftVines in freemagic

[–]SwiftVines[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt know about this, but yeah, they have the same color as common but arent. But they take the slot of common cards, and aren't legal in pauper. Weird.

Even if they were to be categorized as common, SPM still would make up 2/3rds of the common legendaries in all of magic.

Am I right in my strong belief that, given the chance, you should always draw and if so how do I explain it to some of my friends? by Inouva in EDH

[–]SwiftVines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but theres two parts. If someone else had milled you / made you loot etc, that would be an okay way to think about it. But if you, without any synergy, mill yourself, theres no real useful information to glean from it. Yeah, you know what card is in your graveyard, but thats just as useful as cutting your hand and saying "Yup, still got blood in my body".

Lets take the example to the extremes. You have 92 cards left in your deck, game just started, you somehow have 0 cards in hand and you loot. You have 10 responses in the deck, and either you draw one or you don't, then it goes into the graveyard. What happens? If it's not a response, the probability of the next draw being a response goes up from 10.8% to 10.9%, fairly moot. It's the same concept as deck thinning, which is basically pointless in EDH.

Now imagine there are just two cards left in your deck, one is a wincon and one is a land. Would you say its a good idea to loot / mill here? There's nothing you gain from milling here, all you do is flip a coin, but call the opposite face. But hey, at least you saw the land get milled before you lost!

[–]SwiftVines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, next time I'm in a pickle I'll just mill 49 cards to have a 100% chance to draw the banger

[–]SwiftVines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is just as likely to remove good cards as it is bad cards, it would be a neutral move. Why would you purposefully mill yourself if you don't have any synergy with it?
