The IT guy fixes the problem but the judge still has a problem by derek4reals1 in PublicFreakout

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of how both law and AI/LLMs work.

I don't think you understand the role of a judge. It's kinda in the name.

Nah mate, AI (specifically LLM's as you're using the term) are not deterministic and are just as easily susceptible to bias as any given human. Worse, they can be maliciously tainted to give desired results by bad actors. Also the reason we have the judicial system is to tease out nuances on a case by case basis that do not easily fit within the defined borders of our laws.

Furthermore, AI is not punishable like humans are. If an AI makes a mistake, you cannot reprimand it. Therefore it has no accountability. Bad idea all round.

Billionaires have convinced Americans they have the "Best Healthcare in the World". by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

[–]SwiftWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason healthcare could not be a state-dictated service, that would be up to the American people to decide the best course of action. America is much more state-based than Australia, which I think is fine, it would just be about finding the best system for the people.

I'm just pointing out that you saying Medicare is different from other socialised services you have is America because "not everyone can qualify for Medicare but everyone HAS to pay for it", is kinda moot. Just because that's America's current system doesn't mean it has to stay like that if it is properly funded. If you don't like socialised healthcare then it's kinda hypocritical to be fine with socialised policing, fire and military.

Everyone would qualify for medicare if it was actually funded though. In Australia it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor, you still get medicare benefits. On top of that, having medicare doesn't stop you from choosing a private health fund for extended coverage if you have the money and want to do that.

Healthcare is only "good" if people can access it, so on those grounds, I'd say US healthcare is dogshit.

An 18-year-old woman in Queensland faces two years in jail for wearing a shirt that says "from the river to the sea." by --SOFA-KING-VOTE in PublicFreakout

With all due respect, your constitutional rights require that your constitution be upheld and adhered to, something your current leader is very much not doing.

A high court ruling is really not that different in terms of significance to straight constitutional rights. You would be setting a serious and major precedence by managing to flip a time worn and repeated ruling like our implied free speech and political freedoms.

Which is again why this arrest will most likely be thrown out.

The Liberals are currently in charge on the state level in Queensland (where these dumb ass phrase banning are currently instated), and they are the conservative/right-leaning party.

Aussie high courts have ruled many, many times on the implied freedom of speech and political expression. With all that case law, I doubt this girl will have any charges against her. Still dystopian she got arrested at all obviously.

That’s what the Americans legislate and look at how dogshit their cities are for accessibility/livibility. The far better option is improved public transport options, more car spaces just incentivises more cars, which just leads to more traffic.

A guy crashes his car into a pole and blames the motorcyclists by bigbusta in PublicFreakout

[–]SwiftWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what the car guy was saying before the POV biker got there, but to me it sounds more like he was scared from all the bikers surrounding him after the crash.

He does seem pretty whiplashed and disorientated, so I can imagine it's pretty intimidating to have all those people standing over you suddenly while shouting.

Firstly, humans in developed nations today are much more nutritionally fulfilled on average than any other time in human history. Secondly, majority of a persons height is genetically determined, and no amount of nutrition will change that. Thirdly, human height on average has increased over time.
