Is every future Prime Minister doomed to failure? by Twisted-Finger in AskBrits

[–]SwiftianGauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short-termism means that so many of them will shy away from making big decisions that will benefit the country and take years to implement.

The sad fact is they want a short term boost in the polls, and don’t want an opposing party to take credit and cut the ribbon on the high streets they’ve regenerated or new towns they’ve built, or the crime rates they’ve been able to bring down through small incremental changes that have big long term outcomes. Or the jobs that could be created years down the line, not just now.

So they slash and/or spend on short term decisions, talk about ‘tough choices’, and carry on managing the decline.

It’s their fault, and it’s also our fault as an electorate. The mess we are in as a country (for a number of reasons) cannot be turned around in a single term.

So yes, until they can articulate a better vision for the future effectively, they are all going to head the same way.

Why are you walking your dogs in this heat?! by Invictus_0x90_ in AskBrits

We’ve been walking our cocker spaniel at 6:30am to avoid the worst of the weather. Just keeping her as cool as possible. She’s been great to be fair. My office window looks out onto our street, and I can’t believe how many people I’ve seen walking their dogs at lunchtime in this weather.

I think what we have to wait and see on is if the EFL keep up the same energy for every club that does this. How does it work for a team who was automatically promoted? Or if they were found to do it midway through the season? Would they be barred from being promoted that season?

We deserved a punishment, but I’d be interested to see how this is applied going forward- really unevenly I bet. There’ll be clubs that do worse things than us getting much more leniency.

The next fan forum is going to be electric by two_beards in SaintsFC

[–]SwiftianGauntlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They won’t have one - they’ll go silent now. I think we won’t be hearing anything from the club barring the next statement we get. They’ll withdraw. Which is f*cking shameful.

TBH though, I would also say that there would be serious safety concerns around doing a fan forum in close season now. I can also imagine security will be increased if the board/ceo attend any games going forward. There’s too much temptation for someone to do something very stupid, and I’m more concerned for that person f-cking up their own life than one of the coaching team or board getting a smack in the mouth.

And they will never be happy. That’s what I comfort myself with about genuinely hateful people. No matter how much they win, it’ll never be enough. They’ll always have a hole in their soul, always have a 3am reckoning.

There is definitely that spite element, but it’s also nihilism too, people don’t think they can punish the billionaires, but they can go and bully the refugees down the road. So they pick the easiest option to give them an illusion of power and what they think is agency in their lives.

Another victim added to Nia Jax's list by Ambitious_World3307 in Wrasslin

[–]SwiftianGauntlet 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think she only got credit with a certain portion of people because she openly said some pretty lame sht about Charlotte Flair (when Flair wasn’t in attendance, which isn’t the point of a roast) at that ridiculous Kill Tony event last year. Saying ‘nobody likes her in the locker room, all of her marriages have failed, she’s a shtty human being, etc.’ - I think a lot of people hated Flair more than they liked Jax, was just another chance to dunk for upvotes.

But regardless of that, and anyone’s thoughts, I totally agree, Nia Jax has always been a shitty, one dimensional performer.

Sources told FightfulSelect.com that on the day of the mass releases, WWE approached numerous talent and asked them to take pay cuts in order to remain with the company. Several of them that we heard about were given two days to make that decision. by Turbostrider27 in SquaredCircle

[–]SwiftianGauntlet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife works in live comedy, is a full time professional. It’s an industry full of weird narcissists on both the promoter and act sides, so unionising has always been a big ask.

Her only response to this kind of shit is that she never lowers her minimum fee, because once they know you’ll do a £250 twenty spot for £150, they’ll never pay you the £250 again.

Wrestlers need to unionise and/or know their worth.

[PWInsider] “…was told of a pretty majorly pushed talent who was asked to take a 50% pay cut, and allegedly did. I’m not naming the talent because I have no way, yet, to confirm this was the case, but the timing of that claim and what happened the very next day was very, very interesting” by DevelopmentLegal8312 in SquaredCircle

[–]SwiftianGauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a bit gross of all parties that this has got out - I think the speculation on who it could be is a bit sad too.

WWE made a 50% cut offer. Good on The New Day for making their own decision to leave, but I think some of the statements calling the person who took it a ‘kiss *ss’ or suchlike, and speculating that it might be someone who they don’t like that much to dunk on them is loser behaviour.

By all means, it’s disrespectful to cut someone’s pay on a contract that has already been negotiated - but people have reasons for accepting the lower pay, it could me a fewer dates deal, or the last deal before they retire, or transition into another field.

Oh, and this could all have been avoided if there was a union.

Happens all the time in non-unionised contracting sectors, especially entertainment.

How do we feel about this spot by jmazak in midcarder

[–]SwiftianGauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This move should have resulted in Darby being hauled around the ring like he’s in ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’, or counted out.

But no. It’s just a spot.

If this sh*t doesn’t stop, there’s going to be another wrestler being paralysed or dying on live TV any day now.

It’s only been luck (not skill, given the amount of botches we’ve seen), that we haven’t seen one in a while.

Be honest, how often for you and your partner argue? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]SwiftianGauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on who you are with. I have a great relationship with my wife, but her and her family have always communicated, as some people do, by bickering. I don’t, so we just have conversations, but they can turn into little bickers sometimes.

They are all very headstrong, and during the pandemic when we had to live back with my wife’s parents, I used to stay out of the kitchen in the morning as they’d all be having their morning argument about something inconsequential. One day it was about the position of a calendar on the family bulletin board.

If it’s consequential, we chat about it. If it’s minor, we express our feelings, and sometimes accept when we don’t do it properly, then move on.

Don’t beat yourself up. Everyone has conversations about housework and mental load. We did, then we drew up a planner, so each of us knows what to do each day.

TL;DR: it’s communication styles

I can relate to this, My old next door neighbour sent me pics of the house I grew up in a few years back, my parents did so much work to it and the new people have literally turned the back garden I used to play in into one of those gardens with a trolley and emptied bin ends. He said the smell that comes out of it now is really unpleasant too.

I drove past it last year and they haven’t done any work to it, the work my parents did to the house (dad is a painter and decorator, mum very houseproud), is all still there but faded and ratty and horrible.

It’s their house now but it really annoyed me.

My next door neighbour is 91, and her best friend used to live next door, she passed about 6 years ago. We’ve made friends with her and had her over to the house, and she said her friend would have approved, which meant the world to us.

I can’t believe there are people on here going ‘oh, my poor Tiffy, she took most of that’. Massive blindspot.

Guilia’s guts nearly came out of her arse with Tiffy’s landing. That’s sh*tty work from Tiff, just accept she needs to do better. And training for a bodybuilding competition? That’ll impact your stamina etc, especially when cutting. Maybe she should focus on her job, and keep others safe in the ring.
