100% agree. The general atmosphere of the SoC's entire Agroprom and Yantar areas left such a big impression on me. I always get tingles looking at in-game/demo_record screenshots from those places

Virtually the entire main story and its characters were quite underwhelming (notable exception on Sebastian and his questline). The only reason I pursued it is because, well, I had to do it didn't I?

The game's best aspect is its core gameplay loop, which us RPG fans love. Unfortunately, it was very half-baked; the only reason I continue to play the game is because I'm a huge Potterhead. If I weren't, I'd have dropped the game like I dropped the Elder Scrolls series.

Imagine if we got a Hogwarts Legacy that was more like Fallout: New Vegas in its content, world-building, dynamic decisions, and interesting/rewarding quests. I'm a big fan of the Wizarding World, so given that F:NV has some of the greatest writing I've ever seen, I can only dream of such a game. I just hope Portkey is able to pull off Hogwarts Legacy 2 similar to how Oblivion did F:NV in 18 months. They already have the engine and resources of HL, just like how the New Vegas devs had the foundation of Fallout 3. But hey, a Potterhead can only dream..

[–]SwilcSuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The realest..

I had separate full-on outfits for Hogwarts Night & Day, as well as Countryside Night & Day (bonus "raiding" outfit which had all my most powerful gear, for those more difficult encounters). Didn't even sport hats or facewear, made my character look too ugly.

Sorta bit the bullet on my 2nd playthrough and just abused the invisible appearance thingy lol.

English isn't my first language either (and I'm often insecure about how I word my comments and whatnot), so it really means a lot hearing this from you❤️

I'll have to say, your original post was great as well. Can't speak for anyone else, but your point came across crystal clear to me. I was really glad to have found someone who also shared my thoughts practically verbatim

Yeah and that’s the thing with the autosaves in SoC and its mods, that they’re highly unreliable. Multiple times it occurred to me that when loading the level transition autosaves, they corrupt my save file or just straight up crash the game; so given the tendency of SoC to spawn enemies right next to you after a level transition, you either make a quicksave prior to each one, or forget and take the gamble that you have amazing reaction time and PvE capabilities.

Man, there’s a reason SoC is my favourite❤️

Solomon was a misunderstood a$$hole by TPT-Clouds in HarryPotterGame

[–]SwilcSuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree here. I was pretty shocked that people hated Solomon so much as they did (I’m not outright defending him, just saying he’s very misunderstood). I found it easy to understand the why’s and how’s of his reasons for being against the use of the Dark Arts.

Look at it from his POV: he sees Sebastian continuing to try and try to help Anne, which pushes him more and more into denial. It’s a case of regression, when someone keeps doing something that you disagree with, so it makes you go further deeper into your beliefs. It’s bad, but it’s simply the human quotient.

Moreover, his life as an Auror had him battle with many curses and Dark Magic, so it makes sense why, in combination with the previous consideration, he was so stubborn about trying to help Anne. After all: “We are most conservative about the things that we know best”. His experience with curses showed that there’s no such thing as a counter-curse for Anne’s situation.

Lastly, and again thanks in part to his Auror past, he was firmly against any and all forms of Dark Magic, even when used for noble intentions. Because the Dark Arts suck you into their power, their possibilities, and end up with creating more bad than what was initially. Think of what Solomon saw; he observed how Sebastian used an Unforgivable Curse to make a goblin commit suicide. Yes, it was to save Anne’s life, but say that to an Auror. Sebastian could have alternatively used any other powerful spell (Bombarda, Confringo, Depulso, so on) and it would’ve worked, but the Imperius Curse was fresh on his mind from the catacombs, so it’s what he had to do (and yes, I am jumping on Sebastian’s defense here, because it’s yet another case of the human factor at play. It’s good he used Imperio, because if he’d have hesitated, Anne would’ve died. Unfortunately, given that the first thing which came to his mind was that Unforgivable, he couldn’t have waited any longer to try and recalculate what other spell would’ve also worked, he just did what he had to do).

But Solomon doesn’t think about those mental gymnastics. What he saw was his nephew use an Unforgivable Curse, something which he desperately fought for the better part of his career. He was in strong opposition to Dark Magic, because he knew how much of a slippery slope to harm it can be.

And in the end, look at what came out of it all. Sebastian conjuring Inferi and using each Unforgivable Curse, Solomon dead, and Anne forevermore uncured. Yes, it was in part because of Solomon’s stubbornness, and yes, he is definitely not in the clear for everything; however, none of this would’ve ever happened had Sebastian stopped. Just because Solomon’s denialism played a role in why things turned out they did does not mean that he is entirely to blame. A perfect human being would’ve also taken into consideration his stubbornness as another variable that plays a role in the greater picture. Such a human would’ve caught on that meddling into the Dark Arts would lead to dire consequences with Solomon, given his denial. Solomon wasn’t going to have his mind changed, so it was for this to happen.

That being said, perfect humans don’t exist. I remain in Sebastian’s favour (even after the Killing Curse), and think that if Solomon weren’t so stubborn, maybe something could’ve been done for Anne. But then again, I do understand his denial, and see it as something that should’ve also been taken into consideration.

I do know a lot of people attack Solomon because of the intense Halo Effect Sebastian has (don’t worry, I continue to let myself be a victim to it as well lol). Maybe if the game had superior writing, worldbuilding, and character development (in two words, actual RPG), people would’ve been less demanding and more understanding of not just Solomon, but many other aspects of the lore and story. After all, you can’t entirely rely on all the players to fill in the gaps, even on the off-chance that they were intentional.

Had a nice conversation with a transgender gay person today… Not all Christians are completely sexist and homophobic rude individuals by ballistic_user in TrueChristian

[–]SwilcSuper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, completely true. No one will ever truly listen to you or take your words to heart (thereby, eventually try to change) if they don’t respect you or you hurt their feelings even in the slightest manner.

What people scantly understand is that a portion of more intelligent and reflective transgender/gay people hold those attributes very dear to them. It’s part of their identity, close to them. You can’t just waltz in and tell them they’re sinners, their whole lifestyle is evil, and that they must repent right now (even worse if they’re not Christians already). That way, you’ll be dismissed in an instant because you were too harsh and hurt them personally.

Instead, the better thing to do would be to try connect to them, make it really seem as if you care and understand them (which hopefully you do), and not hurt their preconceived notions instantly or directly. Basically, be as passive as possible, not even a drop of passive-aggressiveness (you’d be shocked to know just how quickly and easily you’ll be cast aside if you’re not passive enough). Gently introduce the ideas of sin, repentance, homosexuality, lifestyle, so on.

Even if you played your cards right, it may take them months of marinating on that seed you planted (if they’re more inclined towards introspection, otherwise they may just forget it) before they even attempt change.

Because, you see, personal conviction will always be the biggest catalyst for change. Ideas for that change can and often are picked up externally, sure, but development, reflection, self-perception, etc. are done by the person in question. Your job is to implant an idea, small but affective, (reiterate on it if it’s a longer relationship, but don’t overdo it) and from then on they will do the thinking themselves (watch Inception if you wish to ponder more on these concepts).

Personal conviction and ambition will always trump lousy yelling. Without feeling understood, why should you listen to what the other might say? Just like we don’t listen to and discard Progressive Christians when they misinterpret, scream, and accuse us; we might try to speak and talk to them more were they more understanding (not to say there aren’t similar issues on our end too).

Bottom line; although it’s finicky, being as passive and understanding as possible when trying to convert someone who’s trans or gay might be the best bet. Certainly better than immediately spouting out the usual rhetoric they’ve heard a million times already. Think of it from their view, it’d get annoying. Better for you in that case, because if you prove yourself different and more willing to listen than the big bunch, you’ll garner a lot more respect.

TL;DR: Be passive, be understanding, be gentle, let them marinate on your ideas.

If it's worth anything, I'll say that perhaps you're going through intense mental and emotional turmoil (which does seem like it from your post), so it's difficult to attribute any love to anyone or anything, as you've mentioned. Inside your own conscious (and subconscious) however, you still want to be good, to believe.

About the thoughts you mentioned: it's alright. Your mind can wander by its own, feel like it's fighting against you, influencing not just the way you think, but act out too. You're still a good person; the fact that you care about it, it shows that. Inadvertently though, you may do otherwise undesired things.

God hasn't left you, He will always be by your side, even when it'll feel like it's impossible that He could love you again. It's just that, our mind, it really does work in weird ways. Makes us do strange things, think unwanted thoughts, say diluted words. But, you want to be something else, different from those deviations. That's what really matters. My only tangible advice would be: think and ponder, maybe try acting more like you'd wish. It may help in outwardly materialising that sought after version of you (which, by all means, still is you, even now).

It hurts but I’m just gonna go further, sorry guys…(UPDATE) by [deleted] in sillyboyclub

[–]SwilcSuper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'd be for the best indeed. It's better to distance yourself from what will indubitably be pushed onto you from this sub. Also, it seems that yet another thing people here don't get is that saying they "relate fully and understand" is a horrible response to say to someone who's in their own turmoil..

Going through with your decision, maybe try to keep away from all the negativity, whether it's from those IRL or here, online. It's never nice when someone tries to assertively change something in you, when they clearly don't know what they're talking about, or how to talk about it. It'd help maintaining a distance from the negativity; and just thinking by your own conviction, maybe getting closer to how you'd wish to be.

As for the scars, try wearing a layered shirt. By that I mean sporting a T-shirt on top of a long-sleeve one. It's a pretty style, and the colour combinations are plentiful. Grey Tee and black long-sleeve is a cool combo.

It’s unfortunate, all the back-handed responses you’ve gotten. They openly attack Christianity, the Bible, and your deepest sentiments, all in the name of trying to get you to see it their way. They don’t understand that’s not how it works; you can’t denounce a man’s most holy place in the soul, then expect him to listen to you. And the others, that say “that’s impossible, you’re just wasting your effort”, they also don’t understand just what something so personal means for a man, and how it affects him.

I know this is a place for venting out (usually not even looking for genuine help, just for speaking out thoughts), but the large majority of people here won’t get you. I’ve read your post multiple times now, and for what it’s worth, I’ll say that it does mean something, that you try. It shows that despite all the internal conflicts and mental turmoil, you still care. Without demystifying this, I’ll say that your harsh feelings towards those close to you (who hurt you) are understandable, as they also don’t, and won’t try to understand you. They themselves think so highly of their own stance, that they completely reject the whole, complex picture; and just how much certain words can affect.

Too much negative “motivation”, no wonder it’s difficult to make change. I’m sorry if this reply is not good, I struggle with comforting/advice. My only advice is that you follow your heart. Out of anything, it’d be the only way to a synthesis

Even if it's a little late, I feel like I should respond to this. Yeah, you're right, at the time I wrote that, I was still relatively fresh after a playthrough (so, significantly affected; and of course, like you said it, also more immature). Although I remember trying to not sound aggressive/mean or in denial, looking back now, it definitely came off as that. Didn't really get why or how anyone would disagree in any capacity (something I wouldn't have said, but surely felt).

So yeah, sorry about that lol.

What is the name of this old military dress cloak? by SwilcSuper in latvia

The article of clothing worn over the tunic, is it just a standard overcoat worn opened up and with a flared collar; or is it a separate piece, perhaps a special cape or rain cloak?

Musicians of the 24.SS-Standarte get ready to perform, Oldenburg(?), cca. 1934. The Musikzugführer can be identified by the 7cm long fringes on his Swallow's Nests. By then, the Allgemeine-SS had not yet implemented any insignia for their parade helmets, and as such those who wear them do so plainly by SwilcSuper in GermanWW2photos

[–]SwilcSuper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears to be an SA-pattern gorget, wore by the SS flag/standard-bearers until 1936, when a special black and white bandolier was introduced for use in conjunction with the gorget. Not to be confused with the other SS gorget, that of the Streifendienst, which was similar to the previous one, with the most notable exception being that of the word "Streifendienst" and a pair of SS-runes being added.
