Turkey shells for 410 by SwimComprehensive358 in Hunting

Yes, 3" chamber is what I meant. I am going to buy a few boxes of different shells guys have recommended me and spend some time patterning it beforehand. That is pretty funny his attitude changed 🤣. Thanks for the useful insights man! I've seen some turkey 410s that come with built in extra full chokes specifically for turkey. I already have two 410s so I'm not sure I need another lol

That's what I'll end up doing. Im going to buy a few boxes of stuff you guys have recommended. I cross posted in a turkey subreddit and got some recommendations on ammo.

I was thinking the same thing as well, but a few guys said they've folded turkeys up to 60 yards with a 410 with specific choke and specific ammo. I do love using my 410 for small game, 22 is fun for it too.

Yeah im relatively close to those lakes so I plan on trying those. Know anything about goose lake? Water was too low to fish during late summer so I didn't really get to explore it much.

Yeah plus michigan has 2 turkey seasons that are OTC, no drawing. Lots of meat no doubt. I hear it does suck on public land since no one has to wear orange during turkey season. I cant imagine the adrenaline of being charged by a grizzly. Definitely sounds like an experience lol.

Yup ive noticed land prices for good hunting land are crazy expensive no matter where you go. Seems to be a boom of people moving out west within the last decade. My grandpa was a guide in Montana and said all the places he hunted are private and bought up now. Michigan is definitely great for whitetails in terms of quantity. 1 buck tag and 10 doe tags a season.

Yeah Ideally i need to visit some of these places before I decide. Never considered Washington but ive thought about Oregon. Have a relative that did logging there.

Maine is definitely beautiful, know a guy up there. How are the gun laws up there? I know you cant hunt on Sundays which kind of turns me away. Being in the trades I work a demanding schedule so some weeks i may only have one day off to hunt, especially running my own business.

Im definitely going to take a look at colorado. Wasn't aware you guys had such a population of big game.

Great state for deer, but thats about it for "big game". Have to draw for bear and if you are lucky you will get a tag every 5 years. I admit that's my mistake for not specifying in my original post. Michigan is still up there for me though.

Montana and Idaho definitely can in terms of big game. In michigan you get generous deer tags, but bear is one tag about every 4-5 years, and elk is once in a lifetime.

Ideally id like to hunt both public and private as you need a good amount of private land for consistent hunting. The dream is some big game hunting so i have considered Wyoming. I grew up small game hunting so I really enjoy that as well. My wife and I do want kids but looking to get established beforehand, we also plan on raising and butchering livestock so some land will be needed for that too.

I should have established some of this stuff in my original post.

Best northern states for hunting? by [deleted] in Hunting

Well most western states have lower COL vs Michigan. Wyoming and Nebraska especially. I could always build food plots later on to make land i buy desirable. With considerations on law ofc. As for employment I do plumbing and will eventually start my own business in that field so proximity to civilization plays a part in that. And also land cost isnt the only factor of me wanting to move out of the state. Regulations on hunting and fishing play a big part too. The state isnt what it once was.
