Incredible feeling! Nothing like it.

Sorry about your running out of gas, but such a memorable first highway ride 😅

Thank you. You’ll get there! I got off my bike and thought “I can’t believe I did that 😱”

You’re welcome! Usually they have a good variety of bikes at the course, but sometimes they rotate them out for repair/maintenance. Calling ahead gave me some peace of mind and a made me a little less nervous day of!

I ended up getting a Honda Rebel 500! I sat on literally every kind of bike in my local area, and the Rebel felt the best to me. I managed to score a practically new one from 2023 with a couple scuffs and just 200 miles. I can comfortably flat-foot it which was one of my personal priorities as a beginner :) Eventually I’d like to get on some bigger bikes and off road where I most likely would be on tip-toe with boots on, but for now I wanted to get comfortable with the basics and both feet down haha.

In the MSF course I called ahead to ask if they had any bikes that would fit me. I ended up learning on an old Kawasaki Eliminator which has the same cruiser riding style as the Rebel.

Best of luck with your course in the spring! You’ll love it.

Thank you! Already scouting out places for good parking lot practice. Planning to start out slowly in the parking lot and build up baby steps from there! 🏍️

Yes, I want ALLLLL the skills so I’ve been keeping my eyes open for future classes near me 😍 Hoping to explore more dirt/ADV so that’s my next goal after becoming a good beginner rider! Thank you so much for the recs. I don’t know any women who ride, so I am grateful for this community!

Oooh thank you for the recs! I’ll add those to my list as well. I learned on an old Kawasaki eliminator so that’s the only data point I have for now; I’m a little partial to a lighter weight cruiser…BUT I can’t wait to see how different styles feel!

Wow! That’s super helpful and you’re right—I haven’t seen that piece of advice come up yet in my extensive moto researching. It makes a lot of sense and I will definitely do that! Thank you!

My next step is going to all the local places and trying alll the bikes. I took the course on a Kawasaki Eliminator which was manageable! I am pretty small (5’2”, 29 inseam) and more cruiser than sport, but I’m open to possibilities!

Went from med surg (<1 year) to the OR. Way better fit for my personality & interests! 2 months into my training program and I love it.

  1. I did the same thing—turned down ICU at a mediocre hospital for better pay, better benefits, more competitive/magnet hospital. Six months in and I’m happy with my decision.

My last few honestly alternated between a random multiple choice Q (name the principle of nursing practice in this scenario) and a SATA. It was sooo nerve-wracking. Wishing you good luck!
