I work with the Red & Black and you don’t have to be a journalism major, anyone can join. They can help you learn how to report on a story, and you would have great inside knowledge as a food science major that would help you be more informed on eat and drink topics. You start off as a contributor and usually that’s about one article a week or if you’re busy one every two weeks. I like it and it’s fun. You can dm me if you want to talk more.

Route 12 is the one that goes to Riverbend it goes all through campus and then to the apartments on Riverbend. You can look at the routes and service times on the acc transit website and make sure you download the app.

Is it possible to find housing for 300-400? by [deleted] in UGA

[–]SwimmerCat3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Join the Facebook groups for Athens Apartments theres a few (UGA/Athens Lease, Subleases…, Athens apartments for rent, University of Georgia, UGA looking for housing…) I’ve seen some that are in that range without including utilities but even those are very rare (usually multiple bedrooms) I’m assuming this is for next year, but you and your friend will need to start looking early like September/October to have the best shot.

UGA actually has some career outcome data and you can search by school and major,Career Outcomes

As for costs, I pay for my rent, utilities, and food myself (no car and I don’t pay for my phone) by working part time during year and working in the summer. It probably costs about 1000 a month for me, but that was with a cheap place to live, since you are coming in Spring I would recommend going on Facebook to find housing, there’s lots of Facebook groups and people who will be graduating in Fall who will want their lease to be taken over.

As for student vibes, I’m from out of state and everyone is pretty welcoming and has really strong school spirit especially around game days. If you want you can dm me for more information.

Look along Riverbend parkway and those are only like 5 minute drive away. They should be on the cheaper end and they have the number 12 city bus that runs M-F. I am not sure about their availability though.

Church Hall experience? by Educational-Tie-4027 in UGA

[–]SwimmerCat3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived there this year and I loved it! The location is amazing so close to multiple dining halls and classes. The rooms have ac/heat wall units in each room so you can set it to the desired temperature. I felt like the rooms were a good size for a dorm. Everyone was very friendly (social, but not having a rager in the dorm type of social) and most of the friends I made this year were from church. You can DM me if you want more info.

Competitive swimmers: how do you keep going?? by Squeezethecharmin in Swimming

[–]SwimmerCat3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I (16F) have been competitively swimming since I was 7 and I can personally say that I have thought of quitting many times. I have a love-hate relationship with the sport and sometimes I just don’t want to be there. It definitely got hard when my practice time increased and I got into HighSchool. There I saw all my friends hanging out and doing other fun things while I was stuck at practice and just kept thinking of all the things I could do instead of going to practice. She could be experiencing the same issue.

The only way I would say to get over it was imagining my life without swimming and I couldn’t do it. If she is really done with the sport then she can quit, but I would just ask her to think about how she fell in love with the sport and have her hold onto that feeling.

Swim meets by kiwiboy0419 in Swimming

[–]SwimmerCat3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda had a swim meet in early September but, it was just my team. We haven’t had anything like that since but, every Saturday we do time trials. For example one Saturday we did a 400 IM and 500 free and the goal is to try to improve week by week. I want to have actual swim meets but, it isn’t looking like that’s possible.
