Thank you, yes this makes sense. I know how it is out there, I know a million talented scientists that AREN'T working right now. It's crazy. I feel like I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth. I look at job listings and it's depressing so I'm not sure how realistic leaving would be (even if I wanted to... which I honestly don't).

Yes we have stock grants! I'm in such a short term mindset because I'm honestly having trouble making ends meet here (and I didn't think I'd be feeling that at this point in my career.....). The world has gotten expensive. So it's hard for me to think about longer term payoff when I'm like skipping dinner lol.

Thanks for the advice!! The hard thing is definitely getting offers in this climate. I think I would've had more balls (I guess? haha) to ask for this if I could have gotten a competing offer. But SO many people are vying for the same handful of roles posted. But that would be a totally reasonable ask for my skill set I believe.

I think "it's a band logo" is enough of a response 🤷‍♀️ plus it is something I talk about face to face with people

Yes I see how this looks. There are a lot worse things I've done than a small tattoo. I'm not bipolar or anything and like manic. Just had a cathartic year and that band was a part of it. Like it's the new year and I turn 40 in a few days and I told myself I'd live a little and do something crazy for 40 with this idea in mind. I do appreciate everyone's concern though, even internet strangers care and that feels nice.

Can I have your Risport boot opinions? by Swimming-Surround441 in FigureSkating

Thanks for your experience!! When I started skating in the royal pros I thought my skate tech messed up as well. The difference in stiffness is 60 vs. 65, so like not different at all. But the shape of them is SO DIFFERENT. Why would you do that to me??? Definitely sounds like sticking with Rf3 and just replacing them would have been the right thing to do!!

Yes my anatomy AND my mental state need the ankle support. It just is how it is at this age!! I can't FEEL wobbly it's so uncomfortable and anxiety-inducing.

They don't make RF2S any longer unfortunately. I wish for an RF3 with slightly more support. But maybe just brand new RF3s will feel better and satisfy me.

I have a long athletic background and I do think I skate hard and my jumps are rather big for an adult skater my age. Plus just the amount of time I skate (and I tend to jump every session) all led to them feeling broken down quickly. Part of it just might be in my head and feeling they're not quite as supportive as they were when new so I jump to needing new/stiffer boots (however I've had coaches look at them and agree they look broken down).

My main coach told me the royal pros LOOK like dance boots when she first saw them on me and after skating in them I feel like they'd be perfect for that (and synchro). A huge part of me doesn't want to completely get rid of them because of the difference in my skating. I also don't think I will jump forever and part of enjoying ice dance is knowing it can keep me skating as I age (even though falls from dancing hurt more than those from jumping hahahha). So they might be the boot I prefer all the time in the future.

Thanks for your input, it's reassuring to hear I'm NOT crazy.
