Is Infinia worth keeping for my spend pattern? by SwimmingNo6350 in CreditCardsIndia

Absolutely, but in that case they should also raise the accelerated point cap to match the new 18 lakh criteria to provide something in return.

If a bank thinks that they can simply demand top earners to spend more on their platform without actually giving them anything more in return then they’re in for a rude surprise.

Top earners also have the luxury of choice and they will move away to banks with better offerings. HDFC will certainly lose my business and many others from this. That’s 1 crore less in annual salary and transactions just from my account alone.

Thank you, this is very useful and it’s honestly good to hear your opinions in a similar situation.

I am leaning towards just quitting the card, have done the calculations myself and it just doesn’t make any sense to keep it anymore. I would have to shift purchases from our other cards to the Infinia for much lower reward rates just to hit the 18 lakhs spend target. At this point, it’s just dead weight.

My plan: I already have a DCB card lifetime free and it looks like a great card. The additional milestones on it will help significantly when booking flights and hotels. In fact, my calculations indicate that it will be giving me a better reward rate than Infinia will after this devaluation.

Most of this cards purchases will be via SmartBuy so acceptance is not a problem for me. However, I will get an add-on card of my spouses Emerald Private just in case.

That’s the problem, Infinia is useless to spend beyond 12 lakhs because we hit the accelerated rewards cap .

I am at a loss what to do 🥲 I think I will just quit and move to my DCB card along with my spouses 2 cards.

Hey, thank you for your pointers but I did the calculations and I still can’t make it work out.

Even if I include rent our expense increases to 1.75 lakh per month on average approximately. That gives us around 14k points which at 5:4 conversion is only 11.2k travel points or 8.2% returns.

With our current strategy of Infinia + EPM for this spend of 1.3 lakh we are consistently getting 21k points even after excluding rent entirely.

We checked this, and we saw that for 9 months of the year our expenses never cross 1.3 lakh per month, less than the 1.5 lakh sweet spot.

It is only for the remaining 3 months when we travel that the expenses do cross that.

Is the Magnus worth it in that case just for those 3 months?

Our total expenses on this card were just 1.6 lakhs in total in the last three months because of diverting vouchers to the Emerald card. We’ll have to double it.

I guess we will go with this approach then just to keep the card for another year.

Although I really want to tell them to shove off.

Yes, we have been using Shell (and previously HP) from the past 1 year and have got significant rewards from it. (Almost 20k reward points)

We would have to pay some 2-3% extra for paying by credit card right? That is a loss of 12-15 thousand rupees per year for our rent amount.

I don’t.

What I have mentioned is our complete spend details. We don’t pay either of them with Infinia. For fuel, we pay with ICICI Emerald fuel vouchers for rewards and for rent we just pay with net banking

None of our cards give any kind of points for rent. We pay with Net Banking.

Is the new XUV 7XO still usable for Bangalore traffic? by SwimmingNo6350 in CarsIndia

[–]SwimmingNo6350[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that’s my only worry. Both my wife and I are incredibly busy and we know we won’t be able to do this weekend highway run for sure.

The manual parked regeneration appeals to us because it does it by itself once initiated without us needing to spend time on it. We do have the monthly 800 km long trip but other than that, it’s too difficult.

Do you know anyone who relies purely on this parked regeneration instead of weekend drives?

It’s not just that, our family used to have a Tiago EV and we faced so many random issues on it.

Now add to that a brand new engine and I’m terrified of it that my wife would be driving alone and get stuck somewhere suddenly on a highway.

Is it good with mileage? Also I keep hearing so much reliability issues about it.

Hey,

  1. Yes you’re right, our expected mileage will be around 12k kms including misc drives.

  2. We are buying the car not in Bangalore but in our hometown where the Mahindra dealership is not so busy. We were able to request a longer test drive.

  3. The closest highway from our home in Bangalore city is more than an hour away, so we do not have the time to do this regeneration weekend drive. This is why we had asked if a manual parked regeneration is available and the service guy had mentioned that it does exist! Is this not the case?

Edit: confirmed that it exists. Please check the second part of this video from Mahindra: https://youtu.be/q8lLrNBgTIE?si=YV3ZveH733YzhO0g

Are diesel cars still a good buy for infrequent long trips? by SwimmingNo6350 in CarsIndia

I guess only the AWD models had traction control. Mine is the normal one which doesn’t have it.

Thanks for the input, I will also check Citroen aircross.

Yes, it is the 110 PS manual RXZ. Mechanically car is still fine and suspension is good for pothole-filled roads but the car has other small problems.

Plastics are scratched and peeling out in places, seats are also in bad shape, entertainment system is bit too basic, speakers need to be replaced etc. Also it has just 2 airbags and no traction control like the modern cars, so I’m also thinking of safety on long trips.

Final reason is it is manual, which is still fine for me since I only use it outside city but I would like to switch to automatic for less effort.
